It’s National School Bus Safety Week! Each day will include a safety tip, straight from our dedicated MCS Bus Driver Team.

Tip #1 is: EYE CONTACT. One of the most important locations for student safety is at their bus stop. Vehicles on the roadway pose the greatest risk to students boarding the bus safely. Before your student approaches the bus, from either the door side or across the street, the student should make EYE CONTACT with the bus driver, and wait for the bus driver’s signal that it is safe to approach the bus. Students should also check for vehicles who don’t stop before walking toward the road.

In a related matter, if a student exits the bus, and realized they dropped an item or left an item on the bus, they should stay off the road, get the bus driver’s attention, and wait for the bus driver to signal that it is safe for them to come back to the bus. Sometimes, it’s safer to wait to get the item the next day.

We were thrilled to introduce this year’s Northridge High School exchange students to the school board at the board meeting this past Tuesday.
It is always a highlight to meet these incredible students, hear about their home countries, and learn more about their experiences in the United States so far. We are so grateful to have you in our community and wish all of our exchange students a fantastic school year at NHS!

Congratulations to the very first Remarkable Raider winners at Northridge Middle School!
We were thrilled to recognize these incredible students at Tuesday’s school board meeting. As part of NMS’s mission to build and sustain a strong, positive school culture, the Remarkable Raider award was created to honor students who do amazing things every single day.

We are excited to announce the new leadership team at Heritage Intermediate School!
Kelly Anglemyer has been named principal after serving the past eight years as Heritage’s assistant principal. His knowledge of Heritage and strong commitment to its students, staff, and families will serve him well as he steps into this new role.
Joining him as assistant principal is Jessica Barkby. She is currently serving as an assistant principal with Wawasee Community Schools, but is no stranger to Middlebury. Prior to moving into administration, Jessica spent more than 20 years teaching in Middlebury Community Schools with the majority of those spent at Heritage.
We are confident Mr. Anglemyer and Mrs. Barkby will be a great leadership team for Heritage and are excited to see them work together to serve the school community.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Anglemyer and welcoming Mrs. Barkby back to Middlebury Community Schools. We are excited about what is ahead!

MCS Parents,
Power is currently out on campus and the surrounding area. Orchard View, Heritage, Northridge Middle, and Northridge High School are without power. Power went out after many K-5 students were already on buses. The current estimate from NIPSCO is that power will be restored at approximately 9:45AM. The plan is to continue with a normal school day. The schools have backup lighting and access to water and restrooms. Students are safe and the cafeteria staff will adjust for lunchtime. We will provide updates as necessary. York, Jefferson, and Middlebury Elementary Schools are not affected.
