Middlebury Regional Emergency & Medical Services, Inc. is a Paramedic Level service that provides 24 hour response to the towns of Middlebury, East Middlebury, Salisbury, New Haven, Ripton, Orwell, Shoreham, Whiting, Bridport, Cornwall, as well as Weybridge, Vermont. Shift coverage is 1 Paramedic Level crew and 1 ALS crew from 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs 7 days a week. From 1900 hrs to 0700 hrs, there is
a Paramedic Level crew on. On - call and volunteer personnel supplement any additional calls. Levels of care range from First Responder - CPR trained to Critical Care Paramedic. Crews work hand-in-hand with area first responders, fire departments, and Porter hospital personnel to form a system that provides hope and care to those in need 2,200 times each year. In addition, the Middlebury Regional Emergency & Medical Services, Inc. is a contract member of the national response system and remains ready to deploy a crew anywhere in the country when called. Currently Middlebury Ambulance maintains a staff membership of 45 employees and volunteers. New staff members are always welcome to apply. The Heavy Rescue service maintains the spirit of an all-volunteer company, and responds to any emergency requiring the usage of hydraulic tools, air bags, stabilization, or specialized rescue. The Heavy Rescue has an annual call volume of 70 calls per year, ranging from medical assist calls and motor vehicle accidents, to Mass Casualties and Helicopter landing zones. Technicians that are on Heavy Rescue have a range of education and knowledge, from mechanic to firefighting backgrounds. Known as Middlebury Emergency Communications, the center has two dispatch consoles, a Motorola CommandPlus console with a Motorola CDM-1250 back-up, as well as separate, dedicated 911 lines. The center has the capabilities of operating on multiple frequencies, as well as monitoring all neighboring dispatch centers, such as local and state law enforcement, and other Fire & EMS centers.
