The Vermont Pay for Performance (VPFP) Program is a state-funded initiative that provides financial incentives and technical support to farms implementing conservation practices and improving water quality outcomes by reducing edge-of-field phosphorus losses.
Applications Open June 1 - July 15, 2026
Payment Opportunities Participating farms may receive annual payments in three categories:
•Data Entry Payment (up to $3,000/year) calculated at $50/field.
•Practice Payment (up to $10,000/year) payment calculated using a $$/acre payment rate for installing different field-by-field conservation practices.
•Stewardship/Performance Payment* (up to $30,000/year) calculated on a $$/acre rate for minimizing whole-farm phosphorus loss.
The maximum possible payment in year 1 is $13,000 and the maximum possible yearly payment in years 2+ is $43,000.
