Corn Harvest Preparation and Timing Event

This year, we'll be joined by Tom Eaton, who will discuss corn moisture content, harvest timing, and feed quality. We'll also
welcome John Buzeman from United Ag and Turf, who will demonstrate the John Deere HarvestLab — an NIR (near-infrared)
technology that provides real-time ingredient measurements, accurate yield and ingredient documentation, and automated site-specific data collection.

Bring your most mature corn samples and come ready to share what you're seeing in your fields! This is a great opportunity
to compare observations, discuss harvest conditions, and learn from fellow farmers and specialists as we head into harvest.

Join Addison County River Watch Collaborative for an afternoon of family-friendly fun celebrating the New Haven River on September 12th at Sycamore Park in Bristol from 12-3!
We’ll have local music, free food, educational activities about the river and park, and a raffle. We’ll be joined by our awesome community partners including Audubon VT, the Bristol Rec Department, the Bristol Conservation Commission, and more. Come hang out, dabble in the river, learn about our watersheds, enjoy some music, and celebrate our beloved New Haven River!

Mortality Composting Workshop

Join UVM Extension's Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Maple Wind Farm for a workshop with Jean Bonhotal, Director of the Cornell Waste Management Institute.

Learn how to improve on-farm mortality management through composting to create better compost product, secure fertility, protect water quality, reduce fly pests, and reduce predation and nuisance wildlife issues.

Topics include:

• Best management practices for mortality compost piles
• Benefits of lactobacillus in the composting process
• Practical tips and answers to your composting questions

If you are a large dairy or a small sheep farm this workshop is for YOU. Also we will have special information for those who do on-farm slaughter and processing for poultry and ruminants.

The PFP deadline is next week!

The Vermont Pay for Performance (VPFP) Program is a state-funded initiative that provides financial incentives to farms implementing conservation practices and improving water quality outcomes by reducing edge-of-field phosphorus losses.

Applications Open June 1 - July 15, 2026

Payment Opportunities Participating farms may receive annual payments in three categories:
•Data Entry Payment (up to $3,000/year) calculated at $50/field.
•Practice Payment (up to $10,000/year) payment calculated using a $$/acre payment rate for installing different field-by-field conservation practices.
•Stewardship/Performance Payment* (up to $30,000/year) calculated on a $$/acre rate for minimizing whole-farm phosphorus loss.
The maximum possible payment in year 1 is $13,000 and the maximum possible yearly payment in years 2+ is $43,000.
