This morning the team was at Stillwater Pond in Torrington. Divers worked with tenders on sweep patterns while other members began training on our new boat. Through DEHMS Region 5 we were able to secure a Whaly 4345R. This boat will be very beneficial for the team and communities we serve.

This morning we trained at Knife Shop Pond in Northfield. We started by locating and inspecting a dry hydrant, which is crucial for Northfield's water supply. We then set up a grid search looking for small objects. Once debris was loaded into buckets, topside personnel screened them to see what was brought up. The training was challenging dealing with Lilly pads and their roots, but we were able to locate lots of objects ranging from fishing hooks and lures to an old street sign.

Region 5 Dive Team

The Region 5 Dive Team is a regional underwater SCUBA Search and Rescue team which consists of approximately 65 members from Watertown, Terryville, Thomaston, Middlebury, Bantam and Morris Fire and EMS Departments.

The team is available for Dive Rescue and Recovery operations, water emergencies, emergency management assistance, water safety education and event standby coverage.
