This past Monday night, our members spent the evening sharpening essential firefighting skills during a roll-up drill.

Members practiced deploying and advancing a handline, properly flaking hose to ensure a smooth advance, and evaluating a structure to determine the safest and most effective point of entry.

These may seem like basic skills, but mastering the fundamentals is what builds confidence, teamwork, and efficiency on the fireground. Regular training ensures that when the tones drop, our members are ready to respond safely and effectively.

Thank you to everyone who came out and continues to dedicate their time to serving our community. Your commitment to training helps make Middlesex a safer place.

Structure Fire Response

Earlier today, Middlesex Hose Company was dispatched to assist Crystal Beach Fire Department with a working structure fire involving two homes.

Despite the tremendous efforts of firefighters from all responding agencies, one home was unfortunately deemed a total loss. Through a coordinated and aggressive firefighting effort, crews were able to successfully protect and save the second home from being lost to the fire.

Incidents like these are a reminder of the importance of mutual aid and the teamwork that exists between neighboring departments. We are proud to stand alongside our mutual aid partners whenever they call.

Thank you to all of the firefighters, EMS personnel, and supporting agencies for their hard work and dedication. Our thoughts are with the family affected by this devastating loss.

AIR QUALITY HEALTH ADVISORY

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is expected to affect our region over the next few days. An Air Quality Health Advisory is in effect for Wednesday, July 15, throughout Yates, Ontario and surrounding counties due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter, known as PM2.5.

A current condition report can be obtained for you specific location from http://www.airnow.gov

Smoke conditions can change quickly throughout the day. Children, older adults and people with asthma, COPD, heart disease or other breathing problems may be especially sensitive.

To reduce your exposure:

• Monitor the local Air Quality Index before spending extended time outdoors.
• Limit strenuous outdoor exercise or work when the air looks or smells smoky.
• Keep windows and doors closed and use air conditioning on recirculate when possible.
• Keep prescribed inhalers and other medications readily available.
• Move indoors if you experience coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness or unusual fatigue.

Call 911 for severe difficulty breathing, chest pain or another medical emergency.

Please check on family members, friends and neighbors who may be particularly vulnerable, and continue monitoring local conditions through the remainder of the week.

🚒 Introducing M-54 🚒

We're excited to officially welcome M-54 as the newest addition to the Middlesex Hose Company fleet!

Built on a 2010 Chevrolet chassis with a custom aluminum body, M-54 is designed to enhance our response capabilities, especially for brush and wildland fires, while also serving as a versatile mini-pumper for areas where our larger apparatus may have limited access.

M-54 features: • Hale HPX 200 pump
• 200 feet of 1¾" attack hose
• 1,500 feet of 1" forestry hose
• Custom aluminum body

This truck gives our members another valuable tool to better protect our community, whether it's responding to brush fires, supplying water in hard-to-reach locations, or assisting on a variety of emergency incidents.

A huge thank you to everyone who played a role in making this addition possible. We look forward to putting M-54 into service and continuing to provide the best possible protection for the residents of Middlesex and our neighboring communities.

Thank you to the citizen who sent us this pre arrival video of the boat fire, since the first of the month Middlesex Fire has responded to 10 separate calls both in our district and neighboring districts. I would like to thank all of our members for all the time they have spent away from home and all of the departments that have help over a very busy start to the month
