⚠️ 𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧 ⚠️ issued to help locate 69-year-old 𝗣𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗲𝗹 who is missing from Stoughton. She is driving a red 2005 Toyota Camry with WI license plate AUA5536. The drivers side rear window has a red bear paw decal & Ho-Chunk white feather decal.

Thanks to the quack response of Officer Ryan Roettger with help from Jeff from Public Works, nine lives were saved this afternoon. 🦆🐥

🦆 FROM STORM DRAIN TO SAFE & SOUND 🦆

Not all heroes wear capes… some wear safety vests and work boots.

This week, Jeff from Middleton Public Works Water Utility teamed up with Middleton Police Department Officer Roettger to rescue a group of baby ducks that found themselves trapped in the storm drain system.

After some careful teamwork, patience, and a little creativity, the ducklings were safely brought back above ground and reunited away from danger.

It’s one of those small moments that probably won’t make national headlines — but it says a lot about the people who serve this community every day. Whether it’s maintaining streets, responding to emergencies, or helping a few tiny residents in distress, our crews are always ready to step in.

Great work by Public Works and MPD for the teamwork — and for making sure this story had a happy ending. 💛

Thanks to News 3 Now / Channel 3000 for stopping by to talk with School Resource Officer Cassidy Ruchti about her 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗘𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 that she has been hosting for middle school students. This month, Ruchti was joined by firefighters from Middleton Fire District to talk about their roles, training and career paths for females in public safety.

“I want to empower young women to let them know that any goal or dream that they have is achievable,” Ruchti said. “It gives them more hands-on learning with a wide variety of careers and lets them see firsthand that women can do whatever they want.”

Did you know that Dane County’s outdoor warning sirens only activate in the area covered by a warning? The county uses a zone-based method for activations, so only sirens directly affected by the areas included in a Tornado Warning or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning with the “Destructive” tag will sound. That warning area is set by the National Weather Service office in Milwaukee/Sullivan.

Please report potential siren issues to [email protected].

Sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of every month at noon, unless there is a risk of severe weather on that day.

On May 13, 2026, Detective Jill Tutaj and the Barrios family presented the 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 to a Middleton High School student. The scholarship was established in memory of Katie Barrios, who served as a police officer with the Middleton Police Department from 2016–2019. In honor of Katie’s dedication and service to the Middleton community, the scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in criminal justice.

Thank you to the Barrios family and the 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗘𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 for making this scholarship possible.

As we reflect on the meaning of this day, we are also proud to recognize three of our newest officers — 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗶, 𝗖𝗝 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀, & 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘁 — who graduated today from the 720-hour law enforcement academy at Madison College. Congratulations on this important milestone & welcome to the profession of service!

We would also like to recognize members of our Honor Guard team, who proudly presented the colors during today’s ceremony, representing our department with professionalism & pride. Today serves as a reminder that policing is more than a career — it is a commitment to service, sacrifice, & community.

Since joining the department in 2017, Sergeant Kapinos has built an impressive record of service and leadership. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of roles including patrol officer, field training officer, fi****ms instructor, drone operator, relief dispatcher, Crisis Intervention Team member, Honor Guard Team member, Peer Support Team member, and Awards Committee member.

His dedication, professionalism, and willingness to take on diverse responsibilities have made a lasting impact on both the department and the community we serve.
