This past week our crews were on the move!🚑
Friday, we had the opportunity to attend Middleton’s first ever Campout at the Conservancy! Organized by our City of Middleton Parks and Recreation department, the night was spent enjoying Orchid Heights Park with camp activities, good company, and lots of laughter!🌳
Saturday, Middleton’s annual took place at Firefighters Field between Middleton Police Department and Middleton Fire District, with MIPD taking the win🏆 Founded in 2012, Battle of the Badges supports local families affected by childhood disease. This year, we honored Ka’ari Mitchell, a 7 year old boy born with sickle cell disease.

⚠️ AIR QUALITY ALERT – Hazardous Conditions in Middleton

Smoke from Canadian wildfires has created hazardous air quality across the Middleton area. Everyone—not just those with underlying health conditions—should take precautions until conditions improve.

To help protect yourself:
• Stay indoors with windows and doors closed whenever possible.
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activities and exercise.
• If you must be outside, consider wearing a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask.
• Run your air conditioner on recirculate if possible, or use a HEPA air purifier.
• Check on older adults, young children, neighbors, and anyone with heart or lung conditions.

If you experience severe difficulty breathing or another medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

The American College of Surgeons Stop The Bleed course trains and empowers bystanders to act and provide life saving care during bleeding emergencies. The City of Middleton strives to involve its personnel in this initiative to keep our city safe!

🎆Happy 4th of July to our Middleton Community and beyond!🇺🇸

Fireworks are a favorite Independence Day tradition, but they can cause serious injuries in just seconds. Middleton EMS encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly and keep safety first!

✔️ Never allow children to handle fireworks.
✔️ Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
✔️ Light one firework at a time and move away quickly.
✔️ Never relight a firework that doesn't ignite.
✔️ Leave fireworks to sober adults.

If someone is seriously injured or a fire starts, call 911 immediately.

Every year, thousands of people experience sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. When that happens, every second matters.
The good news? You don't have to be a medical professional to save a life.
Would you recognize a cardiac arrest emergency?
Someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest may:
• Collapse suddenly
• Be unresponsive
• Not be breathing normally
• Only gasp for air
If you suspect cardiac arrest:
1️⃣ Call 911
2️⃣ Start Hands-Only CPR
3️⃣ Send someone to get an AED
Fast action can double or even triple a person's chance of survival.
🤲 Hands-Only CPR is easier than many people think.
If an adult suddenly collapses:
✔ Call 911
✔ Push hard and fast in the center of the chest
✔ Continue until help arrives
Aim for a rate of 100–120 compressions per minute.
⚡ AEDs are designed for everyday people to use.
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED):
• Provides step-by-step voice instructions
• Analyzes the heart rhythm
• Delivers a shock only if needed
You cannot accidentally shock someone unless the AED determines it is appropriate.
AEDs are commonly found in schools, airports, community centers, gyms, and many public buildings.
❤️ Most cardiac arrests happen at home.
That means the person who needs CPR may be:
• A spouse
• A parent
• A grandparent
• A friend
• A neighbor
Emergency responders do incredible work, but they can't be everywhere instantly. The first person on scene is often an everyday citizen.
📍 Do you know where the nearest AED is located?
Take a few minutes today to identify AED locations at:
• Your workplace
• Your gym
• Your child's school
• Community facilities you visit regularly
Knowing where to find an AED before an emergency happens can save valuable time when every second counts.
Preparedness starts before an emergency ever occurs.
Learn CPR. Know where AEDs are located. Be ready.
Because saving a life may someday depend on you.

On this day, as we close this EMS week 2026, we’d like to extend many thank you’s, as we have much to be grateful for!🚨🚨

We’re thankful to our paramedics for continuing to show up, exhibit the highest level of professionalism, and work their tails off to make this department and community better.
We’re thankful to our partners across L311, our brothers and sisters across Dane County EMS and counties beyond, our medical directors, and our local hospital providers.
We’re thankful for our friends, family, and loved ones, who support us through the long hours.
And finally we’re thankful for you, City of Middleton, for your unwavering support.💙🚑

Hello my name is Julie I’ve been a paramedic with the good neighbor city for 17 years. It is an honor and privilege to serve the community of Middleton. When I’m not working you will find me hanging with family and friends traveling, hiking or fishing.

Jen- B shift/OIC:

Hello Middleton! My name is Jennifer Sellek and I am proud to serve the City of Middleton; we truly have a wonderful community! I became a volunteer for Middleton EMS in 1997. Then, in 2001, I was fortunate to be hired as a full-time paramedic and have enjoyed providing emergency medical care to the residents and visitors of our beautiful City and surrounding area ever since. I grew up in several states along the East coast, Hawaii, and Louisiana as my father served in the military and then moved to Middleton 33 years ago. When I'm not working, I enjoy hiking with my husband and dogs, motorcycling, horseback riding, reading, and crocheting.

My name is Kris O’Dell, and I am the proud EMS Chief here at Middleton EMS. It is truly an honor to stand alongside this incredible team as we work every day to provide compassionate, expert-level medical care to our community.
One of the greatest gifts of this role has been watching our team bring their passion and ambition to life through initiatives such as community outreach and the collaborative development of our own Training Center, which will provide lifesaving education throughout our community.

We celebrate all seasons in our family! In the summer, we spend a lot of time on the lakes, and in the winter, you can usually find us on the ski slopes. We also love hiking through our national parks and spending quality time together wherever the adventure takes us.

Dinesh- Float Medic:

Hi, my name is Dinesh Traynor and I've been in EMS since 2022. I recently started as a full time paramedic with the city of Middleton this year after finishing as a paramedic student at Middleton EMS. I'm proud to be a member of this department, and excited to further serve the community. Outside of EMS I love travelling, cooking, and all things music. We thank you all for the support, happy EMS week!

Kathy- C shift:

Hi, my name is Kathy. I’ve been with Middleton EMS for 2 weeks… sort of! I originally started as a volunteer in 1997 and transitioned into an LTE role around 2000. After that, I followed a different career path, but now I’ve circled back home. For the last few years, I worked as a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Beloit Fire Department. I’m excited and grateful to be back serving my hometown community!

Caleb- C shift:

Hello Middleton and Facebook connoisseurs, my name is Caleb and I was born and raised here in Middleton! I have been a paramedic with the city for a year and a half and could not be happier to provide emergency care to the community that raised me. Believe it or not, Day 5 of EMS Week 2026 is upon us, and we’re back to introduce 3 more of your Middleton Paramedics! 🚨🚨One thing that MIEMS is extremely proud of is the wide range of experience and knowledge across our providers. Introducing paramedics Ryan, Casey, and Emily!

Ryan- B shift:

My name is Ryan and I have been a Paramedic for Middleton EMS since 2001. I have been in EMS since 1996. I enjoy working in this community, and the bonds made within the public safety community inside Middleton and throughout Dane County. When not working I like spending time with family, motorcycling, and outdoor activities.

Casey- D shift:

I have been honored to serve with Middleton EMS for the last 3.5 years. I’ve been in emergency service since 2001, but Middleton easily stands out as home. During this time, I quickly realized how truly blessed I am to be part of such a phenomenal team, working alongside amazing individuals and departments each day. My time away from work I stay busy with my 3 boys, hobby farm, and anything outdoors.

Emily- A shift:

Hello Middleton! My name is Emily, and I’m originally a west side native, graduating from Middleton Highschool. I have been in EMS for 5 years, beginning my career in 2020 and working as an EMT for 3.5 years across various departments before becoming a paramedic. I started with Middleton EMS as a paramedic student and have now been with the department for 2 years as a full timer! I am beyond proud to be serving the community that raised me and be surrounded by so many wonderful mentors at MIEMS who have helped me grow so much as a provider! All of your support for our department is unlike anything I could’ve imagined, and we’d like to extend gratitude to everyone as we celebrate this EMS week!
