🚨 “Can you tell them… no lights and sirens?” 🚨

It’s a request our 9-1-1 call takers hear from time to time, especially when someone is worried about waking the neighbors, upsetting a pet, or drawing attention to the situation.

Here’s something important to know:

📞 You can absolutely tell the 9-1-1 call taker that you would prefer responders not use lights and sirens. We can document that request.

However, 9-1-1 dispatchers cannot guarantee or dictate how police, fire, or EMS personnel respond to an incident.

🚓 🚒 🚑 Responding personnel make decisions about their response based on the nature and urgency of the call, department procedures, traffic and roadway conditions, safety considerations, and the information available to them.

So if you have a concern about lights and sirens, tell us! We’ll make sure the responders have that information — just understand that the final decision about how they respond belongs to the responding agency.

💛 Our job is to get the right information to the right people as quickly and accurately as possible.

Things a drive-thru worker and a 911 telecommunicator have in common:

“Can you repeat that?”

“Where are you?”

“Anything else?”

And occasionally…

“Sir, I can’t hear you with all that noise in the background.” 😂

The difference?

When you call 911, the details matter.

So if you ever need us, speak clearly, listen to the questions, and don’t worry if we ask you to repeat something.

We just want to make sure we get it right. 📞🚨

Another great day at the APCO International Conference for the North Shore Regional 911 team!

From exploring the latest innovations in the vendor hall to attending engaging educational sessions, every day brings new ideas that we can bring back to better serve our communities.

One session challenged us to think differently about training, showing how hands-on activities, games, and creative exercises can make learning more engaging and memorable. Sometimes the best lessons happen when we step outside the traditional classroom.

This morning’s keynote was another great reminder that consistency precedes results—keep showing up. Success isn’t about chasing one big moment; it’s about committing to excellence every single day. As Albert Einstein said, “Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.”

We look forward to bringing these lessons, ideas, and inspiration back to North Shore Regional 911—because learning never stops in public safety. 💙📞🚓🚒🚑

“We live in a culture designed to do one thing—to distract us from reality.” – Dr. John Delony

What a powerful way to kick off .

With the perfect balance of humor and honesty, Dr. Delony challenged us to think differently about anxiety, mental wellness, and the lives we’re actually living. He shared that roughly half of the population experiences anxiety, reminding us that the struggles we can’t see are often the ones that affect us the most.

One message especially resonated with me:

“We don’t live in reality. But our body is always living in reality. Your body knows you haven’t slept. Your body knows when something’s wrong.”

As 911 professionals, we’re often experts at pushing through exhaustion, stress, and difficult days. But our bodies—and our minds—keep score.

His challenge to us was simple, yet profound:

“The first choice you have to make is to choose reality.”

Take an honest look at your life. What’s the true state of your relationships? Your health? Your faith? Your finances?

It’s not always comfortable, but growth begins with honesty. Before we can lead others, support our teams, or continue serving our communities, we have to be willing to acknowledge where we are and take care of ourselves.

Another great day of learning, networking, and professional growth at the APCO International Conference!

Our North Shore Regional 911 team attended a variety of educational sessions, including discussions on changing the culture within a communications center and an in-depth review of the FedEx plane crash, where attendees explored valuable lessons learned from a major incident and how those lessons continue to shape emergency communications.

We also participated in the General Business Session, where APCO leadership shared updates on the Association’s work over the past year, highlighted accomplishments, and discussed initiatives that continue to advance the 9-1-1 profession.

To wrap up the day, first-time attendees were welcomed at the New Attendee Reception, providing a great opportunity to connect with peers from across the country, build new relationships, and exchange ideas.

Conferences like APCO are about so much more than sitting in a classroom. They’re an investment in our team, our profession, and ultimately the communities we serve. Every session, conversation, and connection brings back knowledge that helps us continue providing the very best service to the public.

🎶 Looks like we’re “choosing Texas” this week… 🤠

While San Antonio has plenty to offer, our team didn’t come all this way just for the barbecue and cowboy boots. 🤠📚

This week, members of the North Shore Regional 911 team are attending the APCO International Conference, where classes officially kick off today!

Conferences are more than just a trip, they’re an investment in the future of public safety. Our team will spend the week:
🚨 Learning the latest trends and technology in emergency communications.
🎙️ Hearing from industry experts and innovators.
🤝 Networking with 911 professionals from across the country.
💡 Bringing home new ideas and best practices to better serve the communities we protect every day.

Every class, every conversation, and every new connection helps make us a stronger communications center.

We’ll be learning, networking, and proudly representing North Shore Regional 911 all week long. Stay tuned as we share highlights from San Antonio!

You know who asks a lot of questions?

👩 Mom:
"Where are you?"
"Who are you with?"
"What happened?"
"Are you okay?"
"How was school"

📞 911:
"What's the address of the emergency?"
"Tell me exactly what happened."
"What's your phone number?"

Turns out... asking questions is how both moms and dispatchers make sure you're safe. ❤️
