From the beginning of American history, free speech has been crucial for the pursuit of justice and expansion of democracy. Join us as we welcome Author Christopher Finan in conversation with Dana Alison Levy. Your $19.07 ticket includes a copy of the book and tax. Christopher M. Finan has been involved in the fight against censorship for over 40 years. He is the former executive director of the National Coalition Against Censorship and the former president of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression. After working as a newspaper reporter, he received his Ph.D. in American History from Columbia University. He is the author of Drunks: The Story of Alcoholism and the Birth of Recovery, Alfred E. Smith: The Happy Warrior, and From the Palmer Raids to the PATRIOT Act: A History of the Fight for Free Speech in America, which won the American Library Association’s Eli M. Oboler Award for the best work on intellectual freedom published in 2006 and 2007.
Dana Alison Levy is the author of bestselling and critically acclaimed novels and nonfiction for kids and teens, including the beloved Family Fletcher books and her latest middle-grade novel, Not Another Banned Book. Her books have been bestsellers, garnered multiple starred reviews, been named to Best Of lists, and are Junior Library Guild Selections.
When she’s not reading or writing, Dana is also co-lead of the Massachusetts chapter of Authors Against Book Bans, and part of the core team for her local Indivisible chapter. When she’s not doing any of that work, she’s usually petting a cat, preferably in another country.
