“Some people plant in the spring and leave in the summer. If you’re signed up for a season, see it through. You don’t have to stay forever, but at least stay until you see it through.” (Jim Rohn)

What does this mean for WREA?

For 75 years, WREA has grown strong because of members who chose to stay, serve, and see it through. Their commitment built the foundation we stand on today—and it’s that same dedication that will carry us forward.

As we celebrate our 75th Anniversary in 2026, we honor those who came before us—and invite you to be part of what comes next.

Your voice, your involvement, your commitment—these are what shape the future for generations of retirees.

Will you help carry the legacy forward? Join us and be part of something that lasts:

Imagine yourself as a kid, walking through the hallways of your school, eyes lighting up when you spot your favorite teacher. Who was that unforgettable educator—the one who stood out from the rest and made you feel truly special? Maybe they had a unique way of making learning fun, or perhaps they took extra time to help you succeed when you needed it most.

Too often, we forget just how much teachers pour their hearts into their students, going above and beyond every day. Some teachers even give up their precious prep time just to sit down with a student, making sure every child has the chance to thrive. Let's celebrate those inspiring moments and show teachers the appreciation they truly deserve!

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up—Monday, May 4th through Friday, May 8th. National Teacher Appreciation Day falls on Tuesday, May 5th. As a retired educator, recall a time when someone went out of their way to express gratitude for your dedication. This week, take a moment to honor teachers who make a difference every day—show your appreciation and let them know how much their hard work means.

“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve.” (Martin Luther King, Jr.)

This quote is very appropriate as we begin the month of April. Why? Because April is National Volunteer Month. WREA wishes to thank all of its members and the greater population who volunteer in their communities and in the world. Without volunteers we would not continue to be in existence and thrive.

National Volunteer Week is April 19-25.

We need to take the time to appreciate all of the volunteers who give of their time and talent to help others. Join me in spreading the Thank You for Serving!

Spring will be here sooner than we think and WREA has some new opportunities for you. During the next few months, you will have the chance to meet with your Regional Directors two different times. The first will be during either March or April. Regional Directors will be presenting the Chapter Guidelines and Procedures Handbook during a Zoom meeting. A copy of this handbook will be available for each chapter president at the Spring Regional meeting.

On Tuesday, May 5th there will be the Spring Regional Event at the Waters of Minocqua. This will be another opportunity for you to meet with your Regional Directors to build networks and support other chapters. You will also have a chance during the event to set goals for your chapter. The Challenge Award winners will be announced at this event.
