Hey there! So, I recently read the book called “Julie Chan is Dead” by Liann Zhang, and I wanted to share my honest thoughts with you.

Now, I must admit, I picked up this book because of a Goodreads summer challenge. The plot sounded intriguing and it was only $2.99 on Kindle. Since we were on vacation and I needed something to read, I thought, why not give it a try?

The story begins with Julie, a retail worker who feels underpaid and steals from her employer to justify her crappy attitude toward her job. She also has a twin, Chloe, who is an influencer. They’re not close, grew up in different worlds, and have very different lives. Chloe lives in NY, she has rich parents, and seems to have it all; Julie definitely wants what her sister has until the opportunity arises for her to do exactly that. And just when you think Julie will get it all the plot jumps the shark - like really just goes off the rails and there are full on chapters of weirdness.

So, would I recommend this book? Well, yes, but with a warning: it’s a bit weird, and you might end up skimming some parts just to find out what happens at the end (honestly, that’s what I did). If I knew how unhinged it was, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. It’s definitely not my usual cup of tea but if you like murder, mystery, a whole lot of strange cultish weirdness thrown in… this is the book for you.

I've been trying to figure out how to utilize this page since it's not tied to my Instagram and have decided that after I read a book I will start posting reviews here. Reading a book right now that is batsh*t crazy and while I'm not the best at reviews, maybe this will be a good way to start working on that.

Getting there. I feel like I haven't read as many books as I usually do in the summer due to lack of pool time. This summer has been so busy an we skipped the pool membership. Maybe next year.

Figured I'd throw out what I read this past month. I didn't get through as many books as I'd hoped to. Usually in the summer I read 2-3 books a week but lack of pool time and trying to keep my sanity, has made it more difficult to get through my piles. Anyways, Favorite book: The House in the Cerulean Sea. Least Favorite: Icebreaker. Planning on refreshing our LFL this week - I'll post a pic of what's out there tomorrow.

Recently I read Icebreaker after my 9th grade daughter told me I should. I had read reviews and knew it was full of "s**t" as some call it. And I knew it was probably not the best written book I'd ever come across. I have a friend who really loved this book so I thought I'd give it a go. I personally didn't love it but if you can move beyond the excessive s*x scenes the storyline is semi-entertaining - think The Cutting Edge from the 90s - and not horrible.
I came across a thread where people were going on about how no one under the age of 14 should read it and I was thinking about the amount of Danielle Steel and Harlequin romances I had read by that age. And it made me wonder if others had similar experiences as a kid and if so, what was the book or author that they read that if an adult knew, they'd probably cringe.
So, if you're inclined to share, I'd love to hear.

It's been a little busy at the Smith house between end of the year activities, camp, dance recital and now nationals. Trying to catch up on all the things while still trying to find time to relax and it isn't easy. June was a good reading month though. I got through 7 books even with all the chaos. Hoping I'll be able to get through just as many or more now that Summer is officially here.

Went to Beverly tonight for dinner and ended up at The Copper Dog. For anyone who hasn't been there before, I can honestly say that it is a treasure. I'm not 100% positive if the woman who works there is the owner but she is fantastic at giving recommendations. So if you aren't sure what to read, she can definitely help you figure something out. Highly recommend checking it out if you haven't been there.

I finished my "seasonal challenge" tonight. I can honestly say, I did not love the book I just finished. I had to give it 2 stars. I read it bc it was a "rainbow" read but honestly... I'd rather read Evelyn Hugo again.
Anyways... anyone else finish this challenge?

Added a few books to our LFL today. Lovely Bones and Memories of a Geisha have been on my shelf for years and I realized that there are too many books I want to read that I really don't want to re-read these. So passing them on. Come take a book or grab a bookmark!
