The City of Middletown is strategically located between the Dayton Metropolitan Area and the Cincinnati-Middletown Metropolitan area, with less than a 30-minute drive to either downtown Dayton or Cincinnati. The federal government is expected to merge the two MSA’s as part of the 2020 census. A combined Cincinnati-Dayton metropolitan with 2,950,285 people would rank the region as the 18th largest in the U.S. behind San Diego-Carlsbad, California, and ahead of Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida.
The City of Middletown’s Economic Development department is the first line of contact for all businesses. Where We’re Headed
We are a community that knows who we are and what we want to be. The City is in final draft of updating its Master Plan, with elements of that process completed over the past year including: community visioning, a downtown Master Plan, the new Zoning Code, and an analysis with recommendations for our housing stock. An update of the Airport Master Plan is also underway. The last piece of the Master Plan will be a comprehensive transportation update using 21st century planning to move people most efficiently by automobile, public transit, bicycle and on foot.
These processes and plans have encouraged both new development and expansion of business in Middletown. There has been $750 million in new construction recently completed in Middletown. AK Steel, our largest employer, opened their new Research and Innovation Center. NTE built a $600 million state-of-the-art natural gas fired power plant. Kettering Health Network opened a $30 million medical facility at the entrance to Interstate 75 and is already expanding. Beyond the new construction, however, is an expansion of existing business in Middletown. Infrastructure projects funded by the city have eased truck access to major industrial parks allowing PAC Worldwide, AK Steel Research and Innovation Center, and NTE Middletown Energy Center businesses to expand their operations in Middletown. Additionally, in 2019, a 612,000 square foot spec distribution center was built in MADE Industrial Park.
Contact our economic development team to learn more about Middletown’s plans for the future and how you can become part of them.
