New Jersey Blind Citizens Association Celebrating 115 years of unlocking opportunities for the blind, visually impaired and those with deteriorating vision

A 501 (c) 3 not for profit located on Sandy Hook bay in beautiful Leonardo, NJ. We serve adults who are blind, visually impaired and those with deteriorating vision. A day program that includes activities and programs such as art, therapy dogs, support groups for families as well participants, crochet, special interest trips and trips and outings to local eating establishments.

Thank you to Bill Anania for performing at one of our recent camps! Besides being a talented musician, Anania is also the Board President at the Middletown Arts Center and runs their singer/songwriter programs. 🎶

Our campers recently had a great time celebrating the 4th of July and America’s 250th birthday! 🇺🇸

The festivities included a patriotic performance by the Red Bank Quartet (L-R: Terry Schmalzried, tenor, Kirk Thomson, lead, Allan Dean, bass, and Bruce Hanson, baritone). 🎶

There was also a delicious BBQ prepared by our volunteers and a Movement, Balance & Rhythm class hosted by Jill Stryker from Bayshore Pharmacy Cards & Gifts. 🎉

At one of our recent camps, percussionist Justin Vedovelli from The Arts Institute of Middlesex County returned to perform his “Rhythms Around The World” program. He also gave campers their own instruments to play! 🥁

At last week’s camp, duo Kate Hall and Chris Bishop from The Arts Institute of Middlesex County NJ Government gave an awesome performance! Everybody was singing and dancing and some of our campers even got to play their guitars. 🎸

We also celebrated camper Rich Z.’s birthday with some delicious cake! It was wonderful to sing him happy birthday and show him how much he means to all of us. ❤️

The festivities didn’t end there — we also recognized camper George Ramos Curvy for his incredible baseball career. He was inducted into the Seton Hall University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012, and was given the honor of having June 11, 2012 proclaimed as George Ramos Curvy Day in Middletown Township. 👏

George was Seton Hall’s first African-American All-American, and helped lead the school to back-to-back College World Series appearances. He also played in the minor league system for the Atlanta Braves for three seasons. ⚾️

As always, thank you to Lunch Break for donating food and providing for our campers! 🥕
