This summer, we were grateful to have had the opportunity to host a youth employee through Orange County’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Qua’mel Pelle Huggins was a welcome addition to our staff and learned professional skills such as filing, inventory, research, program planning and implementation, and most importantly, TEAM WORK! Affectionately called “Q”, our team enjoyed working with this bright young man and know he has a bright future! Thank you for all your hard work, Q!

The 2nd Annual ADAC Too Good PJCSD Graduation Ceremony was held on 8/10 at East Main Elementary School in Port Jervis, NY.

Port Jervis City School District Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students worked hard throughout the summer, completing all 10 lessons of the evidence based Too Good for Drugs curriculum brought to them by PJCSD Prevention Specialist Mrs. Hulse and Miss Burton. Their accomplishments deserved to be celebrated, and thanks to the incredible support of our school and community partners, we were able to make their graduation a truly special and memorable experience.

Every student and ADAC staff member wore a t-shirt donated by Chief Worden - Port Jervis Police Department. The students were treated to an incredible program that included a welcome from ADAC's new Executive Director, MaryAlice Kovatch, inspiring remarks from Lt. Sargente of the PJPD, and an exciting K-9 demonstration from the Orange County Sheriff's Office featuring Deputy Mike Muller and Maverick and 1st Sgt. Yela and Yoda.

The students proudly received their completion certificates with Dr. Bell – PJCSD Superintendent, Mr. Kahmar – PJCSD Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Mr. Harris – PJCSD Board President, and PJPD - Lt. Sargente joining us on stage to offer congratulations and high fives. Their principals were also there, cheering them on and celebrating their accomplishments.

The students were provided bike helmet coloring pages to color to be entered into the bike helmet raffle. Ten brand new bike helmets and pedestrian safety booklets were donated by Lauren Campbell - Traffic Safety. On the day of their graduation, Lauren randomly chose a coloring page from each class to choose the winner of the bike helmet which they enthusiastically received on stage.

After they crossed the stage, they had their photo taken by their teachers at our photo booth area and then received a swag bag all generously donated by the following community organizations: MaryAlice Kovatch - Executive Director/ADAC (coloring books, crayons, and stress stars), Angel Hicks - 911 Communications (pencils), Deputy Christie Meany - Sheriff's Office (crayons), Bryan Welsh - Department of Health (first aid kits), Peter Cirigliano - Emergency Services (drawstring bags), and Rachel Wilson – Orange County Youth Bureau (directories).

Thanks to Mr. Marotta – PJCSD Director of Communications & Academic Services, the ceremony was also live streamed so family members and friends could share in the celebration.

None of this would have been possible without the many organizations and individuals who care so deeply about the children in our communities. Their generosity and collaboration made this celebration much more than a graduation ceremony, it made it a celebration of our students and the community that is proud of them!
