State Route 17 westbound is currently closed just after Exit 120 due to a motor vehicle collision in the Town of Wallkill.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Expect major delays.

Thank you to the New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Wallkill Emergency Medical Services, Circleville Fire, and Town of Wallkill DPW for their assistance throughout the event.

PASSING OF POLICE K-9 BANE

The Town of Wallkill Police Department announces with profound sadness the passing of
Police K-9 Bane.

Throughout his service with the Town of Wallkill Police Department, K-9 Bane served
our department and community with unwavering dedication, courage, and loyalty. More than a
police canine, Bane was a trusted partner, protector, and valued member of the Town of Wallkill
Police Department family.

K-9 Bane served alongside his handler and partner, Police Officer Madison Warner. The
bond between K-9 Bane and Officer Warner extended far beyond their work together and
reflected the extraordinary trust, dedication, and companionship shared between a police K-9 and
handler.

Throughout his career, K-9 Bane made a lasting impact on our department, our
community, and the many individuals who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside
him. His dedicated service and contributions to the Town of Wallkill will not be forgotten.

K-9 Bane served faithfully and with distinction, and his memory will remain a lasting
part of the Town of Wallkill Police Department.

Good morning Town of Wallkill residents and businesses. Residents on Silver Lake Scotchtown Rd from 1st street to Bert Crawford Road, due to a water main break you make have low pressure. The water department is working to fix the break and will have the pressure returned to normal as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

State Route 17 has reopened in both directions.

Bloomingburg Road remains closed from Route 17K to State Route 302.

Exit 116 (Route 17K) eastbound Exit 118 (Fair Oaks) both directions remain closed.

Motorists are asked to use caution, follow posted detours, and seek alternate routes until further notice.

Original Post: Due to a structure fire in the area of Bloomingburg Road, the following road closures are currently in effect:

State Route 17 is closed in both directions from Exit 116 (Route 17K) to Exit 119 (Route 302).

Bloomingburg Road is closed from Route 17K to Brown Road.

Traffic is significantly affected throughout the area. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice.

It is with extremely heavy hearts that the Town of Wallkill Police Department mourns the passing of Detective Christopher Thompson of the Town of Newburgh Police Department.

Detective Thompson began his law enforcement career with the Town of Wallkill Police Department before continuing his service with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and, ultimately, the Town of Newburgh Police Department.

Throughout his career, Detective Thompson demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the law enforcement profession, his fellow officers, and the communities he served. His loss is deeply felt by the members of the Town of Wallkill Police Department and throughout the entire law enforcement community.

We ask that everyone keep Detective Thompson’s family, friends, and fellow officers at the Town of Newburgh Police Department in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

The Town of Wallkill Police Department extends our deepest condolences to Detective Thompson’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.
