3. Users repeatedly post the same comment or comments that are deemed to be advertising or promoting a service or product not endorsed by the district. We will delete comments when:
1. Comments specifically identify students and/or staff in defamatory, abusive, or generally negative terms
2. Comments violate copyright and fair use laws
3. Comments are abusive or include inappropriate language or statements. This includes remarks that are racist, homophobic, and/or sexist
4. Users post an Emoji that is deemed inappropriate
5. Comments include profanity, or simulated profanity. Inserting symbols, such as *** is not permitted and will be removed
6. Your comment incites violence
7. Your comment encourages breaking the law or encouraging others to do so
We will ban users if comments:
1. Are repeated, frequent violations of the above
2. Endanger others. Adopted in 2021

✈️ Partnerships Creating Opportunities

Last week, members of the Middletown City Schools leadership team joined Butler Tech at its Aviation Center in Middletown as they welcomed Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, partner school district leaders and school board members.

The visit was part of Governor DeWine’s Heart of Opportunity Tour, celebrating Ohio’s recent recognition by CNBC as the No. 1 state in the nation for business.

A highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring Sen. Rob Portman; Cassie Barlow, President of the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE); Marni Durham, Butler Tech Executive Director of Workforce Services; Lt. Governor Jim Tressel; and Governor Mike DeWine. Together, they discussed the connection between education, workforce development and economic opportunity, as well as the important role schools and career-technical education play in preparing Ohio’s next generation.

We have enjoyed watching Butler Tech’s Aviation Center take shape right here in Middletown and seeing the opportunities it creates for students throughout our region.

💡 Our first Personalized Learning Day of the school year is Tuesday, September 8!

Students will not report to school on this day. Instead, they can choose from a variety of activities to learn, explore and create at home and in our community.

🎨 Looking for a creative option? Complete the “Keep Our Parks Clean” Poster Challenge!

Students can put their creativity to work by designing an original poster that shows how we can all help keep our local parks clean and enjoyable. The poster challenge is featured on the Personalized Learning Day Choice Board and gives students an opportunity to use their artistic skills while making a positive impact in our community.

🌍 Other activities include interviewing adults about their life experiences, visiting MidPointe Library for a scavenger hunt, learning the basics of changing a tire and enjoying a story read by Superintendent Card!

👟 $50,000 Invested in Middletown Students!

The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation is investing $50,000 to help provide more than 1,250 pairs of new, properly fitting shoes to Middletown City Schools students through Shoes 4 the Shoeless during the 2026-2027 school year!

“As a major employer in Middletown, Cleveland-Cliffs is committed to the well-being of Middletown’s residents, especially its children,” said Lourenco Goncalves, Chairman and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. “The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation is pleased to partner with Shoes 4 the Shoeless to ensure every elementary student in Middletown City Schools has access to new, properly fitting shoes.”

“This partnership is a powerful example of what can happen when organizations come together around the needs of students,” said Superintendent Elgin Card. “When our students have their basic needs met, they are better positioned to focus on learning, participate fully in their school day and feel confident walking through our doors.”

The investment was celebrated at Amanda Elementary, where Cleveland-Cliffs employees, community volunteers and Middletown High School Hope Squad students joined Shoes 4 the Shoeless to support students during the event.

Shoes 4 the Shoeless will continue visiting Middletown schools throughout the year. We are grateful for the partners who continue to invest in our students! 💜

🍩 A Sweet Start to Friday!

Rosa Parks Elementary started the day with a special treat from Superintendent Card! During Convocation, our schools competed in a staff spirit contest, and the Rosa Parks staff brought the energy, loud, proud and full of Middie spirit!

Their prize? Milton’s Donuts! The Rosa Parks team walked in this morning to a sweet surprise and a well-earned reward for showing their school spirit! We’re grateful to Milton’s Donuts for partnering with Middletown City Schools for events throughout the year and helping us celebrate our staff and students!

Please be advised that this morning at 11:48 a.m., the fire alarm sounded at Middletown High School. Students and staff were immediately and safely evacuated or prevented from entering the building. Emergency personnel arrived on scene to investigate and determined the alarm was caused by a mechanical issue with an alarm panel.

Students and staff safely returned to the building within 15 minutes.

📚 Morphing Into Readers!

Middletown City Schools is grateful for the continued support of the Middletown Community Foundation through funding for the “Morphing Into Readers” grant, helping expand professional learning for teachers and strengthen literacy instruction for our students.

Morphology teaches students how words are built using meaningful parts, such as prefixes, suffixes and Greek and Latin roots. These strategies help students tackle unfamiliar words, build vocabulary and strengthen reading comprehension.

“One of the things I have quickly come to appreciate about Middletown is the strong connection between our schools and our community,” said Superintendent Elgin Card. “The ‘Morphing Into Readers’ initiative is a great example of how community partnerships can build on the work already happening in our classrooms and create even more opportunities for our students to succeed.”

The grant provides teachers with specialized training and resources they can bring directly into their classrooms.

“Morphology gives students practical strategies for making sense of unfamiliar words and building their vocabulary,” said Literacy Coach Terri Vincent. “With support from the Middletown Community Foundation, we are able to deepen teachers’ knowledge of this approach and give them resources they can immediately put into practice with students.”

📸 MHS Picture Days are coming up!

📅 Monday, August 31 | Grades 9–12 School Pictures
All students in grades 9–12 will have their school picture taken during school hours in the auditorium. Students should check their grade-level Schoology course for their scheduled picture time.

MiddState and ECA students may come from 7:45–8:15 a.m. and should enter through the entrance near the band room, where a staff member will check them in. Students should exit the building after their photo is taken.

🎓 Wednesday, September 2 | Senior Formal Pictures
All seniors will have a formal photograph taken for the yearbook, graduation events, senior panoramic and other senior displays and publications.

Students will wear a tux or drape for their photo. Tuxes, drapes and accessories will be provided, including black tuxes, purple bow ties, black ties, purple drapes and pearl necklaces.
**Seniors who do not have their formal photo taken will not be included in these materials.**

Seniors will be called down to the Community Room from 7:30–11:00 a.m.

MiddState and ECA seniors may come from 7:45–8:15 a.m. and should enter through the main entrance for check-in.
