🎉Exciting News for Two Long-time Middletown Businesses🎉

Legendary businessman and philanthropist Bill Holtzman, owner of Holtzman Oil Corp., announces a merger with Middletown’s 7-11. The 7-11 at Reliance Road and Route 11 will close, and complete demolition, rebuild, and rebrand to 7-11 will happen at the current Liberty Gas Station location. The Liberty station will close on September 7th and demolition and remodeling will begin in September. ⛽️

Congratulations to both longstanding Middletown businesses! Stay tuned to a special philanthropic announcement in the coming weeks from Bill Holtzman and Middletown! 🤝

Church Street comes alive tonight for the August Middletown Evening Market!

From 5 to 9 PM, Church Street between Second and Third Streets will be shut down and transformed into an open-air evening market filled with so many things we love about our little community.

Come shop from 30 local vendors, including farmers, artisans, makers, and small businesses. Clem's Kitchen is closing the restaurant for the night and bringing their food out to Church Street, alongside Billy Sous, Bee'z Lemonade LLC, and The Station Mobile Café . 🍴🍋☕️

Grab a glass of wine or a beer from Star in the Valley, find a spot under the trees, and enjoy live music from Eamon Curley throughout the evening. 🎻🍷

And while you’re here, be sure to step inside historic St. Thomas Chapel, right beside the market, where the doors will be open for tours throughout the evening.

Keeping Our Middletown VA Veteran's Memorial Beautiful! 🇺🇸

A big thank you to Ryan, owner of EZ Home Solutions, for donating his time and hard work to help beautify the Middletown Veterans Memorial! Ryan edged, weeded, trimmed the bushes, and put down fresh mulch to keep this special place looking its best. 🌿🇺🇸 People are always volunteering to help with the town and battlefield, if you are interested in getting involved, send us a message!

There’s something special about summer evenings in Middletown, and our Evening Markets have quickly become one of our favorite ways to celebrate them. 💜

Join us for the August Middletown Evening Market as we once again shut down Church Street and fill it with local vendors, delicious food, live music, wine, beer, and plenty of small-town community spirit.

This Friday enjoy live music from Eamon Curley, bringing an evening of fiddle, guitar, and vocals to Church Street. Food will be for sale from Clem's Kitchen and Star in the Valley will also be back pouring local wine and beer while you shop, eat, listen to music, and spend the evening with friends and neighbors. 🍻

We’ve loved watching these Evening Markets grow into a new community tradition. Seeing Church Street lined with vendors, families walking through town, music playing, and everyone gathering together reminds us how special Middletown really is.

📜 𝑨 𝑷𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒅

The recently purchased preserved lot at 209 Mineral Street sits on ground that witnessed some of the most decisive moments of the Battle of Cedar Creek on October 19, 1864. During the final phase of the battle, Union forces pushed through this very sector, helping turn the tide and shape the outcome of the day.

The site also contains the remains of the Millbrook Mill, a documented archaeological resource dating from around 1850–1874. Surviving stone foundation walls still reflect the milling and agricultural heritage of Middletown during the Antebellum, Civil War, and Reconstruction eras.

𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝑻𝒘𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒌

The Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation is pleased to announce that it has received an $8,000 grant from the Frederick County Historic Resources Advisory Board. This funding will directly support Phase Two preservation and stabilization work at the historic Heater House.

Beginning this week, PJ Stanley, Owner of Renovation Concepts, will return to the Heater House to launch Phase Two repairs. Stanley previously completed Phase One construction, which stabilized critical portions of the structure and halted ongoing deterioration.

The Foundation is also proud to share that the County’s investment will be enhanced by a significant contribution from Frank and Nikki Klebieko, and a $1,000 donation from D & M Container Servicer. Frank and Nikki are dedicated preservationists and passionate Civil War enthusiasts whose generosity reflects their deep commitment to protecting the Valley’s historic resources.

The Heater House, originally constructed as a log dwelling in the 1760s and was expanded over generations. Its early ties to Jost Hite, James Hoge, and the extended Hite family connect the property directly to the earliest European settlement of Frederick County. The home later witnessed the full force of the Battle of Cedar Creek on October 19, 1864, when Confederate artillery positioned around the house fired on Union forces advancing across the farm.

Phase Two repairs will include structural reinforcement, exterior envelope improvements, and historically sensitive construction work designed to protect original materials and prevent water intrusion.

“As Frederick County, VA commemorates the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, this investment, combined with generous private support, helps preserve a place that tells the story of the Valley’s earliest settlers, its agricultural heritage, and its pivotal role in the Civil War,” said Charles Harbaugh IV, Mayor of Middletown and President of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation. “We are grateful for the Frederick County Historic Resources Advisory Board, Frank and Nikki Klebieko and D&M Container, for standing with us as we begin Phase Two repairs this week.”

𝑻𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝑨𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒄 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕

The Town of Middletown is proud to announce the permanent preservation of approximately 2 acres of nationally significant battlefield land located on Mineral Street. The Town extends its sincere appreciation to the owners Keith Tump and Karolyn Jane Plaskota and realtor Melissa Crider for this extraordinary act of stewardship.

The lot played a direct role in the final phase of the Battle of Cedar Creek on October 19, 1864. Situated near the northern end of Major General Stephen D. Ramseur’s Confederate line, and within the gap between Ramseur’s and Major General John Pegram’s commands, the property witnessed the advance of Brigadier General George W. Getty’s Union division during the afternoon counterattack. Getty’s breakthrough in this sector contributed directly to the collapse of the Confederate line and the retreat of the Army of the Valley.

With this acquisition, Middletown now safeguards over 42 acres of historic land within town limits, complementing more than 2,000 acres preserved by park partners outside the town.

Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation CEO Keven Walker praised Middletown’s leadership and long‑standing commitment to preservation:
“Preservation is more about the future than the past, and you’d be hard‑pressed to find a community in the Valley that understands that as well as Middletown. Middletown’s leaders have proven that preservation can be a major part of an economically thriving community—that growth and preservation can be given equal consideration when thoughtful people are planning for the future.”

Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation President Charles Harbaugh IV emphasized the importance of this acquisition within the community’s long‑term vision:
“In our most recent comprehensive plan, 60% of respondents identified historic preservation as the top priority for Middletown’s future. This purchase reflects that shared commitment. We are deeply grateful to the landowners for their generosity and proud to continue protecting the landscapes that define our identity and tell the story of the Battle of Cedar Creek. I am particularly proud of the Middletown Town Council for aggressively pursuing land preservation measures.”

The Town of Middletown remains committed to safeguarding historic resources, protecting rural character, and ensuring that future generations can experience the landscapes that witnessed pivotal moments in American history.
