The Middletown Compassion Initiative is hoping to find a local group or organization that would be willing to help us restore an elderly woman's property.

She is no longer physically or financially able to maintain her home and has recently received notices from the town regarding her yard. Through no fault of her own, the work has simply become more than she can manage.

We're looking for a group such as a Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop, church youth group, service club, school organization, athletic team, or any other volunteer-minded group that would be willing to spend a few hours alongside us cleaning up her property. The project will include picking up trash, clearing debris, cutting limbs, weed-eating and moving a riding lawn mower and a few other larger items.

I often say that people don't think much about dignity until they've lost it. A clean yard may not seem like much to most of us, but for someone who can no longer care for it, it can mean everything. Sometimes restoring a person's dignity doesn't require a grand gesture, it simply takes neighbors willing to show up and lend a hand.

If your group is interested, please send me a private message. Kris Harter I no longer monitor comments or regularly check social media, but I will be checking my direct messages specifically for this project, so that's the best way to reach me.

Thank you for helping us care for our neighbors. If you know of a group that might be interested, please share this post so we can connect with them and make this happen.

P.S. This property is also home to a litter of cats that are currently dealing with a flea problem. If anyone has unopened flea treatment, such as Frontline or a similar product, that they would be willing to donate, it would be a great help in making life a little more comfortable for these cats. We are also looking for anyone who may know of a good, loving home for kittens that need one. Donations can be dropped off at Belgian Horse Winery during our regular business hours.
