🚁 Airway Management Training – Coming Soon!

Lake County Fire Protection District, in partnership with REACH Air Medical Services, is hosting a FREE hands-on training focused on one of the most critical interventions first responders can make: airway management.

📅 Dates: September 8, 10, 12
🕘 Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
📍 Location: 14815 Olympic Drive, Clearlake, CA

Training will cover:
• Basic & Advanced Life Support airway techniques
• The SALAD Maneuver (Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy & Airway Decontamination)
• Scenario-based training to build decision-making skills under pressure
• Collaborative learning with EMS professionals and REACH 6 flight crew

Due to increased wind activity, a flare-up has occurred on the northwest side of the Frazier fire, which is now 96 acres.

The fire is approaching the Tecuya fuel break while Los Padres Hotshots, U.S. Forest Service - Sequoia National Forest Fulton Hotshots, LPF Monterey Hotshots, Helicopter 528 crew, and LPF Engine 19 are holding the line. This strategic measure is vital to contain the fire despite threats of steep slopes and limited visibility due to smoke.

This photo depicts a powerline arc caused by thick smoke, moisture from vegetation turning to steam, and an arc that causes the current to deviate from its original course. It can be seen visibly and heard audibly; it is a powerful reminder to our crews to continue working safely and aggressively to suppress the fire and protect our communities.

Before you light that burn pile, make sure you’ve cleared 10 feet of bare mineral soil in all directions. This critical buffer zone removes flammable vegetation and helps prevent your burn from escaping. It might not look exciting – but this patch of bare earth could be the difference between a safe burn and a wildfire.

✔️ Keep your pile no larger than 4 feet in diameter
✔️ Clear 10 feet of bare mineral soil around the pile
✔️ Have a shovel and water supply nearby
✔️ Stay with the fire until it’s completely out
✔️ Always check to see that it's a permissive burn day

CAL FIRE AEU has responded to numerous vegetation fires over the past three days—many caused by mowing dry grass or using equipment improperly. With dry grass and warm weather, it only takes one spark to start a wildfire. Lawn mowers, w**d eaters, chainsaws, grinders, welders, tractors, and trimmers can all ignite fires if not used carefully.

Here’s how to reduce the risk:
• Mow before 10 a.m. when it’s cooler
• Never mow during windy or excessively dry conditions
• Only use lawn mowers on green lawns—not w**ds or dry grass
• Be cautious of rocks—metal blades striking rocks can spark fires
• Keep spark arresters in place and well-maintained on all gas-powered tools
• Maintain equipment and use the correct fuel
