Yesterday, the Middletown Township Police Department was made aware of concerning social media posts made by a resident referencing New Monmouth Elementary School.

Our police officers acted immediately, quickly identifying and locating the individual.

While I am unable to share specific details regarding this matter, I want to reassure our residents, parents, and school community that, as a result of the swift and decisive actions of the Middletown Township Police Department, there is no ongoing threat to New Monmouth Elementary School or the public.

We have been in direct communication with Interim Superintendent Kevin Cullen and school officials to ensure a coordinated response. We have taken, and will continue to take, all necessary and appropriate actions regarding this incident.

The safety and security of our children, our schools, and our community will always be our highest priority. I want to thank the men and women of the Middletown Township Police Department for their immediate response and professionalism in handling this situation.

We will continue working closely with our school district partners and provide additional information as appropriate.

This morning, a NY Waterway ferry out of Belford collided with a piling, causing several windows to break. While no injuries have been reported, this is still a very serious matter.

I spoke with Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone and the County Administrator to review the details surrounding this incident and to stress the concerns we have heard from riders about the quality, consistency, and overall condition of ferry service since NY Waterway’s return as the service provider.

Director Arnone is calling for unannounced inspections of NY Waterway operations to help address these concerns and ensure all safety and operational requirements are being met. He has also requested a full review of this morning’s incident to determine whether all proper protocols were followed, including notification to and involvement of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Our residents depend on this ferry service every day, and they deserve transportation that is safe, reliable, and held to the highest standards. We will continue working with Monmouth County and the appropriate agencies to ensure those expectations are met.

Twenty-five years later, Middletown remembers the 37 residents we lost on September 11, 2001.

As a generation grows up with no memory of that day, we have a responsibility to teach them about the darkness of September 11, but also the courage, sacrifice, and unity that answered it.

We must teach them about our 37 neighbors and make sure their stories are never forgotten.

They were ours. They always will be and Middletown will always remember. 🇺🇸

Tonight at 7:00 PM, we will gather at the Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens to honor the 37 members of our community we lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years have passed, but their memories remain forever woven into the fabric of Middletown.

We remember their lives. We stand with their families. And we will Never Forget. 🇺🇸
