NATIONAL SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK
October 19–23, 2026

As the week comes to a close, the Middletown Police Department would like to acknowledge National School Bus Safety Week

As students travel to and from school each day, we remind motorists to remain alert, slow down, and help keep our children safe.

Remember:

* Stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights.
* Never pass a stopped school bus with its stop arm extended.
* Watch for children near bus stops and intersections.
* Eliminate distractions and stay alert in school zones.

In addition to school busses, following last week’s tragic loss of a school crossing guard in Meriden, we remind all motorists to remain vigilant, slow down, and watch for crossing guards who put themselves in harm’s way each day to protect our children. Their safety matters, too.

A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a lifetime of tragedy.

Let’s work together to keep Middletown’s students safe!

With the uptick and growing popularity of E-Bikes throughout the state, the Middletown Police Department reminds riders and parents that e-bike safety starts with knowing the law and making responsible choices.

Know Your E-Bike Class – Not all motorized bicycles are legally considered e-bikes.

Wear a Helmet – Protect yourself every time you ride.

Follow Traffic Laws – Obey traffic signals, ride with traffic, and stay alert.

Be Seen – Use lights, reflectors, and bright clothing.

Parents: Talk with your children about safe riding habits and ensure their e-bikes meet Connecticut’s legal requirements.

Remember: Modifying an e-bike may change its legal classification, and certain roads, sidewalks, and trails have restrictions.

Our goal isn’t just enforcement , it’s education, awareness, and preventing crashes before they happen.

Let’s work together to keep Middletown’s roads, neighborhoods, and trails safe for everyone!

DARKER DAYS, SAFER TOMORROWS!

As daylight hours grow shorter, Halloween approaches, and Daylight Saving Time comes to an end, the Middletown Police Department reminds everyone to stay alert and make safety a priority!

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month, and with more people traveling during darker morning and evening hours, a little extra caution can go a long way.

DRIVERS: Slow down, eliminate distractions, and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists, especially near schools, crosswalks, and neighborhoods.

PEDESTRIANS: Wear bright or reflective clothing, use sidewalks and crosswalks, and make sure you’re visible to motorists.

BICYCLISTS: Wear a helmet, use proper lighting, and obey traffic laws.

🎃 HALLOWEEN IS ALMOST HERE! Be especially mindful of children and families enjoying the festivities.

⏰ REMINDER: Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 1, 2026. Clocks fall back one hour, bringing earlier sunsets!

Whether you’re behind the wheel, on foot, or riding a bike, we all share the responsibility of keeping our community safe.

SLOW DOWN. STAY ALERT. BE SEEN. BE SAFE.
