TICK SAFETY 101

Summer means more time outside, but it also means increased exposure to ticks. Whether you're hiking, gardening, camping, or enjoying a day at the park, a few simple precautions can help keep you and your family safe.

✅ Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks more easily
✅ Use EPA-approved insect repellent
✅ Stay on marked trails and avoid tall grass and leaf litter
✅ Shower and perform a tick check after spending time outdoors
✅ Check clothing, gear, and pets before coming back inside

If you find a tick, remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers, clean the area, and monitor for symptoms such as a rash, fever, or flu-like illness.

Take a few minutes to protect yourself today so you can enjoy the outdoors all summer long.

This week, the Monroe Fire Department hosted collaborative training with nearly a dozen neighboring jurisdictions. The focus was on using Thermal Imaging Cameras (TICs) in live fire conditions to locate and rescue victims more effectively. Having a live fire training facility onsite gives Monroe a unique opportunity to train realistically, strengthen skills, and work alongside our regional partners, all with the goal of making our communities safer.
