DRIVER KILLED IN CRASH INVOLVING SCHOOL BUS IN HOMER TOWNSHIP

Homer Township, MI – The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two-vehicle traffic crash that claimed the life of Dallan Walker Sweebe, a 27-year-old City of Midland man. The crash occurred Monday, October 5, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m. on East Isabella Road (M-20), east of North Homer Road in Homer Township.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Sweebe was operating a 2024 Toyota Corolla westbound on East Isabella Road when it rear-ended a 2026 International school bus. The bus was driven by a 73-year-old Saginaw man.

Sweebe was transported by EMS to MyMichigan Medical Center – Midland with serious, life-threatening injuries. He was later flown to the University of Michigan Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

There were multiple people aboard the school bus at the time of the crash. Some reported minor injuries but declined evaluation and treatment at the scene.

Toxicology results are pending to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash. Upon completion of the investigation, a final report will be submitted to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Midland County Sheriff’s Office personnel were assisted at the scene by the Homer Township Fire Department, MyMichigan EMS, Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, Midland County Road Commission, and Coles Wrecker Service.

The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation Awards Grant to Midland County Sheriff’s Office for New K9 Unit

MIDLAND COUNTY, MI — The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant from The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation to support the establishment of a new K9 unit within the Midland County Sheriff’s Office.

The grant will provide funding to purchase a dedicated vehicle and specialized equipment necessary to establish and operate the new K9 unit. The addition of a K9 capability will enhance the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to respond to a variety of public-safety needs throughout Midland County.

The new K9 unit will provide an additional resource for law enforcement operations, including the detection and location of illegal narcotics, tracking and locating individuals, searches, and other situations where a trained law enforcement K9 can provide unique capabilities.

“This grant represents a significant investment in the safety and security of the residents of Midland County,” said Midland County Sheriff Scott Holzinger. “We are extremely grateful to The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation for recognizing the value a K9 unit can bring to our community. The vehicle and equipment provided through this grant will give us the resources necessary to establish the program properly and provide our deputies with another valuable tool to protect and serve Midland County.”

The establishment of the K9 unit will also provide opportunities for the Sheriff’s Office to assist other law enforcement agencies and public-safety partners throughout the county when a K9 resource is needed.

“The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation has been proud to support the people of Midland County since our first grant to the County in 1956. We are pleased to continue that partnership with this grant to the Midland County Sheriff’s Department as it adds a K9 unit, providing an added measure of protection for the community and the deputies who serve it,” said Dr. Ruth Alden Doan, President and Trustee of The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation.

“The support of organizations such as The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation allows local public-safety agencies to develop programs and obtain equipment that may otherwise be difficult to fund through traditional government resources,” Sheriff Holzinger said. “We appreciate the Foundation’s continued commitment to making Midland County a stronger and safer community.”

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office looks forward to implementing the new K9 program later this year and utilizing this additional resource to enhance law enforcement services throughout Midland County.

DEPUTIES ARREST MAN FOLLOWING THREATS INVOLVING FAMILY MEMBERS AND SCHOOL

Larkin Township, MI – The Midland County Sheriff’s Office investigated an incident involving threats of violence made by a 39-year-old Larkin Township man toward family members and a school.

On Monday, September 14, 2026, deputies responded to a Larkin Township residence for a report of a disorderly male. Deputies learned that an argument had occurred between the 39-year-old man and his parents, a 60-year-old Larkin Township woman and a 65-year-old Larkin Township man.

The 39-year-old man was arrested at that time on an unrelated warrant and lodged at the Midland County Jail.

During the investigation, deputies learned that the man made threats of violence towards family members and a school. Following the initial investigation, the case was submitted to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office for review and charging authorization, and an arrest warrant was subsequently authorized.

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, deputies located the man and arrested him on the authorized warrant. He was lodged at the Midland County Jail.

The man’s name is being withheld pending his arraignment in the 75th District Court. An updated release will be provided once the arraignment has taken place.

🐷 MISSING KUNE KUNE PIGS 🐷

Two Kune Kune pigs, approximately 150 lbs. each, were located in the 1200 block of East Isabella Road.

The pigs are described as black/brown in color. An owner has not yet been located.
