Thank you, Maple Hill Nursery!

This spring, Maple Hill Nursery donated a wonderful and greatly needed spread of mulch for the front garden at the men’s crisis shelter at 412 Buttles.

With all of the traffic and road construction that’s taking place along the Business 10 corridor this summer, we are grateful to give our guests something beautiful to look at that will point them to the new life waiting for them at the Open Door. Thank you, friends at Maple Hill Nursery!

The results are in!

Thanks to a group of generous donors, we hosted a $10,000 matching challenge in May to raise money to support the homeless, hungry, and hurting this summer. Thank you to everyone who donated during this time: because of you, we raised an additional $28,340 in funds. That makes a grand total of $38,340 dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable in our community!

Did you know that today is World Hunger Day?

For most of us, it’s just another day on the calendar, but for many people around the globe, it’s a reminder that nothing is guaranteed: not even our next meal.

That’s not the case here in Midland. We are so grateful to our community who give so generously so no one has to go hungry. Special thanks to our friends from Sanford UMC who are in the kitchen with us today - many hands make light work.

Com and join us for breakfast for lunch from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm today - we’re having eggs, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, fresh salad, and more. You can pick up a sack lunch for dinner, and there’s plenty of extras on our giveaway table, too.

- Help oversee daily shelter life like meals, activities, and routines
- Connect shelter guests with community resources

Office hours update!

While our shelters will always be open 24 hours day, 7 days a week, our administrative office in "the back house" at 409 Indian St. will be switching to summer hours after Memorial Day. After next Monday, the office will close at 4 pm to allow our office volunteers and staff members more time with their families and more flexibility with their schedules while the Michigan weather plays nice.

Phone calls after hours will continue to be forwarded to the staff member on shift at the men's shelter, and they are always happy to help.
