It's with heavy hearts we announce the passing of one of our own Richard (Dick) Ripke. After retiring from the City of Midland Fire Department, Dick became the Deputy Chief and Training Officer of Edenville Twp. He spent the last 30+ years serving Edenville Township in those roles until his recent passing. He wore many different hats in the community over the years. He enjoyed teaching at the Midland County Firemans Academy, Search & Rescue, Fire Science program at Delta college and served on many county boards. He will be deeply missed by all. Please keep his family in your Thoughts and Prayers.

UPDATE TO
INJURED FIREFIGHTER

Yesterday, Captain Zachery Theile suffered a serious injury, while battling a structure fire in the Village of Chesaning. He received gold standard medical treatment from on scene first responders, MMR, and the amazing medical professionals at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. Our heart is grateful, and we can’t thank them enough. You saved our brother.

This afternoon, Zach was released from the hospital, and is resting comfortably at home with his family. He has a long road to recovery, but he is in great spirits.

He is only allowed limited physical activity, which means that he can’t return to work. Although there is insurance that will offset many bills, his family could use some community support.

Our FD is overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, and support over the past 24 hours for Zach’s family. Christmas is quickly approaching, and any love that you would like to share, will be greatly appreciated.

If you would like to support Zach’s family as he recovers, you may contact his family directly, or you follow the attached link.

No excuses. Just results!

Southwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected in the Tri Cities and Thumb region from 2 PM this afternoon to 2 AM tonight. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

10/31/2024

Warm and humid air for late October fuels showers and a chance of thunderstorms today. Strong southwest wind also gusts frequently in the 30 mph range increasing into the 40 mph range this afternoon and evening. A strong cold front brings the peak wind gusts while sweeping rain out of the area by early evening. Dry and cooler weather starts the weekend. Rain returns by Sunday.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Thumb and Tri-Cities regions for today. Gusty winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures will lead to an elevated fire risk. Check with the Michigan DNR for a burn permit if you intend to burn.
