The Greenwood VFD, along with the Midland Fire Department, Northeast VFD, and Garden City VFD, just got back from fighting a pretty good-sized grassfire.

Folks, we cannot stress this enough: PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Conditions are extremely dry right now, and it doesnโ€™t take much to start a fire. A small spark can quickly turn into a large grassfire and put homes, property, livestock, and firefighters at risk.

โš ๏ธ Please watch for:
โ€ข Dragging chains or anything metal that could create sparks
โ€ข Hot vehicle exhaust or equipment parked in dry grass
โ€ข Burning trash or debris
โ€ข Sparks from welding, grinding, or other equipment
โ€ข PLEASE DO NOT THROW LIT CI******ES OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE!

If youโ€™re traveling on our roads, take a moment to make sure nothing is dragging underneath your vehicle and properly dispose of ci******es and other smoking materials.

Our volunteer firefighters are working hard to protect our communities, but prevention is the best protection. One careless act can keep multiple departments and crews tied up for hours.

The Greenwood VFD had an awesome training session today alongside Midland Fire Department Stations 2, 4, and 6, focusing on drop tank operations, drafting, and water transfer.

Training like this helps us sharpen our skills, strengthen our teamwork, and be better prepared for every fire scene we respond to. We are always striving to improve so we can provide the best possible service and protection to the citizens of Midland County.

It is heartbreaking to see what is happening in Palo Pinto County. The Ross Fire has burned approximately 80,000 acres and was only 12% contained as of Wednesday, August 26, with homes, structures, ranchland, and livestock affected.

Praying hard tonight for every firefighter and first responder battling this beast, for the families who have lost their homes, and for the ranchers and animals caught in its path.

๐Ÿ™ Lord, please protect the firefighters. Give them strength, wisdom, and safety. Protect the families, homes, livestock, and communities still in danger. And Lord, Texas desperately needs rain. Please open the heavens and send much-needed, gentle rain to this dry land.

Lord, please watch over every man and woman fighting these devastating wildfires. Give them strength, wisdom, protection, and safe passage as they face the flames. Surround their families with Your peace.

Protect the people, homes, farms, and livestock in the path of these fires. Give those who must evacuate safe roads and safe shelter. Bring courage to those who are frightened and comfort to those who have already lost so much.

And Lord, Texas needs rain. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Please open the heavens and send gentle, soaking rains enough to calm the fires, restore the land, fill the ponds and creeks,and bring relief to people, animals, and firefighters.

Keep them all safe, Lord. Send rain to Texas. In Jesusโ€™ name, Amen. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ
