The distinction being drawn between "free speech" and "hate speech" in that article deserves serious attention from every American who values liberty. That same line of reasoning has been used across Europe and in socialist countries to erode or heavily restrict free speech protections, and history has shown us exactly where that road leads. When governments are given the power to define what speech is "acceptable," it is only a matter of time before biblical truth itself becomes the target.

Regardless of school system or social media policy, what this man wrote was his personal opinion about a religion. He did not condone violence, incite it, or anything of the sort. He expressed a viewpoint about a religion, no differently than atheists and humanists routinely do when it comes to Christianity. Yet somehow, criticism of one religion is celebrated as intellectual courage while criticism of another is treated as a hate crime. That double standard should concern every one of us.

The Bible warns us in Isaiah 5:20, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness." We are watching that verse play out in real time. Proverbs 14:34 reminds us that "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people." When a nation begins silencing truth and punishing those who speak it, righteousness is being replaced with something far more dangerous.

Social conditioning is very real, and it is occurring at a scale and intensity that America has never seen before. It is embedded in our schools, our media, and our institutions, and it is moving fast. This is precisely why we cannot afford to be passive or indifferent at the ballot box. We must be intentional and relentless about electing and keeping conservatives in office at every level of government, from local school boards all the way to Congress. These are the men and women who will fight to protect the First Amendment, defend religious liberty, and push back against the cultural forces that are working overtime to silence anyone who holds a biblical worldview. The time to act is now, because the window to course correct does not stay open forever.

A member of the Gaston County School Board is facing a growing number of calls to resign over a social media post.

Didn’t get to stay the whole time, but I had an absolute blast yesterday at Mount Pleasant High School helping students navigate “life as a 27 year old” 👏

Each student was assigned a career, salary, taxes, and a real monthly take home income. From there, they had to make it work… housing, expenses, everything. Real life, real fast.

I was at the housing station (shocker 😂), and watching their perspectives shift in real time was the best part.

At first, many leaned toward renting. It felt easier, more flexible. But once we dug into the numbers, the long term picture, and the difference between wants vs needs, you could literally see the light bulbs go off 💡

Some students even came back to switch their choices after realizing what building equity actually does. One of my favorites was watching them “sell” their home and use that equity to pay off student loans… mind blown 🤯

This is the kind of real world education we need more of. Huge kudos to Mount Pleasant HS for creating an experience these kids will actually carry with them.

Tonight the voters made their decision and I came in 4th.

Of course that isn’t the outcome we were hoping for. But if there is one thing I feel tonight, it is overwhelming gratitude for the people who stood beside me through this entire race.

This campaign was never just me.

It was the people who believed in me enough to fight for me when I wasn’t even in the room.

The friends who defended me in comment sections.
The supporters who shared my message again and again.
The people who put signs in their yards, talked to their neighbors, and encouraged others to vote.

You showed up for me in ways that I will never forget.

Politics can be rough. Campaigns test you. But the loyalty, encouragement, and belief I experienced from so many of you reminded me why I ran in the first place.

This campaign was built by people who care deeply about Cabarrus County and the future of our community.

To every single person who stood beside me, believed in me, and fought for me along the way… thank you. Truly.

I may have finished fourth on the ballot tonight, but I walk away incredibly proud of what we built together and deeply grateful for the people who carried this campaign with me.

Cabarrus County is my home. That does not change tonight.

And neither does my commitment to this community.

One thing this campaign showed me very clearly is that there are a lot of people in this county who want thoughtful leadership, honest conversations, and a voice that asks hard questions.

Those conversations are not going away.

And neither am I.

Thank you for believing in me.

Sincerely,
Alexis Hughes
