With a team of 60 firefighters/paramedics serving our community, it is almost impossible to select a few for honors, but the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce allowed us to do just that at the 2021 First Responders Luncheon. Well deserved recognition went to Fire Inspector Jeremy O'Mealia for the organization and implementation of the Fire Department's Resiliency Program; Firefighter Andrew Gatlin for organizing and facilitating the Fire & Police Departments' es**rt of Michael Murphy, a special needs student, to his first day in kindergarten, and Battalion Chief Matt Golman for countless hours spent building props and covered storage at the FD's Training Facility. Icing on the cake was a tribute from Methodist Midlothian Medical Center's Administrator Jary Ganske to Midlothian's Fire Department administration and paramedic team for their consistent display of courage, dedication, and professionalism throughout the pandemic, acknowledging that Emergency Medical Service runs have been made more than 1,000 times by the Midlothian Fire Department during the hospital's first 303 days of operation. Many thanks to the Midlothian business community for this heartfelt event.

Many thanks to our Ellis County leadership for this important reminder to help curb the rapid rise of COVID-19 in our community. However, citizens should not hesitate to call 911. Though the local hospitals may be stretched, Midlothian’s paramedics are trained to provide life-saving care and are ready to respond. Most importantly, be safe. COVID-19 vaccines are in abundant supply and will help keep you out of the hospital if you become infected. Because Ellis County and Midlothian are categorized as areas with “High” levels of COVID-19 transmission (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view), it is more important than ever to follow the CDC’s guidelines. Our Mayor Richard Reno has asked that the guidelines be repeated here in hopes that together we can reduce hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19.
• Wear a mask to protect yourself and others and stop the spread of COVID-19.
• Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from others who don’t live with you.
• Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces. The more people you are in contact with, the more likely you are to be exposed to COVID-19.
• Get a COVID-19 vaccine. www.vaccine.gov.
• Clean your hands often, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean frequently touched objects and surfaces daily. If someone is sick or has tested positive for COVID-19, disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
Monitor your health daily and if you have symptoms, get tested: DSHS COVID-19 Testing Site locations: https://tdem.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html...

Notice: Please maintain heightened health and safety practices, including staying home and quarantining if you exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19. This will help reduce the number of COVID patients in Ellis County hospitals, which will in turn prevent EMS services from being delayed by having to transport patients outside the county.

Midlothian boy born with rare condition gets a special es**rt on his first day of kindergarten

Michael, you are worth it! We had the opportunity to take this amazing young man to school this morning. We brought some friends with us. Huge thank you to Captain America and Batman for their help in making Michael's first day of school the most awesome first day of school ever! We also can not forget our awesome police department and their SRO's (school resource officers). Another huge thank you to the Midlothian school district for their assistance as well. We can't thank everyone enough for helping us make this day possible.

It was a very special first day of school for a Midlothian kindergartener who looks a little different. Last week, his mom made a plea for kindness that has sparked an outpouring of support.

Today, at approximately 0845, Station 2 was dispatched to a smoke investigation. Upon arrival, firefighters found a kitchen fire that had been extinguished by the home owner using their fire extinguisher. The resident stated they were cooking and a grease fire started. The home owner quickly sprung into action and put a stop to this potentially deadly fire. We applaud the home owner for their fast and swift action to stop the fire from spreading any further. Firefighters used a TIC (thermal imaging camera) to ensure there was no further fire or embers inside the walls or in the surrounding areas. We strongly encourage all residents have to have a fire extinguisher in their homes and know how to use it appropriately. We are glad everyone was safe and unharmed in this incident.

Free bottled water available at former fire station No. 1 across from City Hall today till 5 p.m. and each day thereafter from 1 to 5 p.m. till supplies last.

FREE BOTTLED WATER TO RESIDENTS WITH NO RUNNING WATER

Although during the recent winter storm, the City of Midlothian water system has remained 100% operational, some households are without water due to burst water pipes. To help residents who have had water to their homes turned off until pipes can be repaired, the City of Midlothian’s Fire Department has picked up 10 pallets of bottled drinking water that will be available to residents without running water to pick up at 235 N. 8th Street (old fire station No. 1, across from City Hall) starting today, Feb. 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. and each day thereafter from 1 to 5 p.m. as long as supplies last.

Homebound individuals that need drinking water due to no running water at their homes, may call Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch at 972-775-3333 to request drinking water delivery by the Police Department.

Our Emergency Management Coordinator has asked us to share the following information. Please share!
********************

Yesterday, the Governor announced a statewide effort to collect damage assessment data for this unprecedented Winter Storm event. This information is being collected to help officials across the state gain an understanding of damages for individuals and businesses throughout Texas.

Our objective in this effort is to demonstrate the scale of this disaster at the local, regional and state level to try and seek FEMA Individual Assistance and Public Assistance with reimbursements. Please share the access link and QR code on social media, website, electronic signboards and other mechanisms for the best results on sharing this with our community. Thanks!

Once people report their damages, I can view on a statewide dashboard on the number of damages reported by our residents and businesses.

Midlothian firefighters receive first doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

A Special Gift for First Responders.

Brookshire’s Pharmacy in Midlothian was among the providers in Texas this week to receive COVID-19 vaccine in order to continue to vaccinate front-line health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities as part of the state’s phase 1A vaccine distribution plan. Midlothian firefighters/EMS responders lined up to receive their first doses of the vaccine from Pharmacy Manager Crystal Dixon, Pharm.D. More first responders will be vaccinated next week and the first group will receive their second dose in 28 days. (Photos courtesy of EMS Chief Kevin Cunningham.)

Who can I speak with regarding recommendations for a fire escape ladder from the third floor of an apartment building? Any help is greatly appreciated!
We would like to recreate this photo if possible. It has been seven years since the quick response of these men that has allowed us the last seven years to watch this little girl grow into the young woman she is today.
Reminder! If you are or know of a First Responder in Ellis County, stop by and see us on Thursday!!
Um Grande Abraço para todo o departamento,.Portugal sempre atento.
Thank you so much to the firefighters and medics that joined our birthday parade today!!! My son’s best friend was so sad to not be having a party right now, but we surprised him with something even more memorable. Thank you SO much for taking a few minutes out of your day to help make a child feel extra special!!!
Grand Opening of our new Fire Training Facility.
On Friday, September 6th, first responders were called to a middle school to help a woman who had fallen and cpr was being performed. Fire fighters from Midlothian responded quickly and were able to get her to the hospital for further assistance. My Mammaw was given a 5% chance of survival after what she had gone through. Today we were able to celebrate her 80th birthday and given the chance to personally thank these men for all they did to help my Mammaw make it. Heroes definitely do not wear capes and are so selfless. Many times they do not get to know the outcome of how situations turn out. I’m so glad that we were able to go by and let them know how this miracle turned out!
I live in an apt in Midlothian & I was told I couldn't burn citronella on my patio. I was told the fine is around $3000 if I get caught. Can someone tell me if this is true?
I just want to say thank you to the firemen who came out last night to help rescue my 2 puppies that were stuck inside a pipe...it took alot of muscle ...THANK YOU!!! I didnt get their names or pic but I do have a video of all of them working to get them out...#youallrock 💜🧡💙
Can you tell me where in Midlothian there is a Toy for Tots drive?
I love the first responders back cover of the high school program!
