Last week, we showed up at the Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting to advocate for the funding and implementation of the MEHKO program, a critical step toward expanding economic opportunity, supporting home-based food entrepreneurs, and advancing food justice in our communities.

We were proud to stand alongside partners and community members from Cook Alliance, CHISPA, Cooperacion Santa Ana, and Harbor Institute who shared powerful testimonies about why MEHKO matters.

From immigrant entrepreneurs and working families to advocates and local leaders, the message was clear: our communities deserve pathways to safe, accessible, and culturally rooted economic opportunity.

Thank you to everyone who used their voice, shared their story, and stood in support of MEHKO. 🫶

We showed up. We spoke out. We stood together. 🧡
This week, CIELO joined small business owners, advocates, and community partners at the Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting to voice support for a MEHKO program in Orange County — creating pathways for home cooks, family entrepreneurs, and local food businesses to grow safely and sustainably.

Thank you to our partners at COOK Alliance, Santa Ana Cooperacion, and CHISPA for standing with us and helping uplift the voices of our community.

From photography businesses to healthy snacks and aromatherapy massage services, our participants are building businesses rooted in solving real community needs — while learning the foundations of business structure, planning, and growth.
