As Sakya Care Foundation's 7th International Medical Mission concluded on July 5, 2026, it is hard to believe that it has already been one month since our journey began in Quang Tri, Vietnam on June 26, 2026.

Our mission would not have been successful without the many helping hands that supported us every step of the way. Each day, our Spiritual Advisors Sangha led five different buses with loving-kindness prayers, inspiring morning talks, and meaningful education about the communities and areas we were serving. Their guidance prepared our hearts and minds to serve with compassion, humility, and purpose.

We bow in deep gratitude to the Sangha for your wisdom, compassion, and kindness. Your unwavering encouragement, spiritual guidance, and presence were a constant source of strength throughout this mission. Thank you for walking this journey with us and for helping make this mission a truly meaningful and transformative experience.

We are deeply grateful to all the volunteers who joined us this year, united by a shared commitment to the Sakya Care Foundation's mission of serving with compassion, altruism, respect, and excellence.

Though we come from diverse backgrounds, professions, and walks of life, we were brought together by a common purpose: to ease suffering, offer a helping hand, and bring hope to those in need. Your dedication, generosity, and selfless service made this mission truly meaningful and successful.

While we set out to make a difference in the lives of others, the experience transformed us as well. The smiles we shared, the lives we touched, and the friendships we built will remain with us as lasting reminders of the power of kindness and service.

It was truly a blessing to return to our homeland and serve those in need during our 2026 Sakya Care Mission. An even greater blessing was being able to share this journey with my mother-in-law, my wife, my niece, and my daughter. Serving side by side as three generations of our family made this mission deeply meaningful, and it is a memory I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Throughout this journey, we tried our best to live the vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva:

"May I be a good doctor for those who suffer from illness, a guide for those who have gone astray, a lamp for those who dwell in darkness, and a source of treasure for those living in poverty and need."

We came to Vietnam hoping to make a difference, but I believe we were the ones who received the greatest gift. Every smile, every story, every handshake, every tear, and every life we encountered reminded us how blessed we truly are. The people we met touched our hearts in ways that words can never fully express. Their resilience, generosity, and gratitude will remain with us long after this mission has ended.

To all of the children and students who joined this mission, I hope these memories stay with you for the rest of your lives. When you return home, give your parents a big hug. Thank them for the sacrifices they made so you could have the opportunities you have today. Never take those blessings for granted, especially after meeting families who have so little, yet continue to live with incredible strength, kindness, and hope. I truly believe this experience will shape not only the healthcare professionals you become, but more importantly, the people you become.

To my fellow students, doctors, hygienists, assistants, pharmacists, nurses, interpreters, volunteers, organizers, and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, thank you. Your compassion, patience, dedication, and countless hours of hard work made this mission possible. It was an honor and a privilege to serve alongside each and every one of you. Together, we cared for thousands of patients, but even more importantly, we shared love, dignity, and hope with every person we met.

Finally, my deepest gratitude goes to Sakya Care Foundation for giving all of us the opportunity to serve, to learn, to grow, and to be part of something so much greater than ourselves. Thank you for believing that compassion has no borders and that even the smallest act of kindness can change a life.

This may be goodbye for now, but I hope it is only until we meet again. Whether our next journey brings us back to Vietnam, to Myanmar, to Africa, or wherever help is needed, I hope we will once again put on our blue shirts, answer the call to serve, and continue sharing kindness with those who need it most.

Until next time, thank you, everyone. May you and your families be blessed with good health, happiness, wisdom, and peace. I look forward to the day our paths cross again and we have the privilege of serving side by side once more.

Sincerely,
Nghi Tran, DDS
Dental Clinic Lead

Recap for 5 Days in Quang Tri, Vietnam.
June 27-July 1, 2026

Now that I’ve finally arrived home, I can’t help but appreciate the comfort of my own bed. Yet, at the same time, my heart is filled with a deep sense of longing. I already miss everyone.

I miss seeing the sea of Sakya Care's blue shirts filling the dining hall during breakfast and dinner. I miss watching that same sea of blue spread throughout the clinics, schools, and temples where we served together. It’s a strange feeling to finally be home, yet still feel like a part of me is back in Vietnam with all of you.

I am truly humbled by the kindness, generosity, and sacrifices each of you made throughout this mission. Whether it was your time, energy, compassion, or unwavering dedication, every act of service made a meaningful difference.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making this mission so special. I already miss each and every one of you, and I look forward to the day our paths cross again on another mission.

Sincerely,
Tami Phan, OD
