Did you know electrical fires cause tens of thousands of home fires each year? They also lead to hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries annually.

May is National , the perfect time to review a few simple safety tips that can help protect your home and family. Small habits can make a big difference! ⚡🏠

✔ Never use electrical equipment near water.
✔ Make sure light bulbs match the recommended wattage for the fixture.
✔ Use extension cords temporarily only, and never run them under rugs, through walls or across doorways.
✔ Avoid overloading outlets or power strips with too many devices.

Electricity certainly brings comfort and convenience to our lives — let’s do all we can to enjoy it safely!

Congratulations to Hannah Causey, a recent graduate of First Preparatory Christian Academy, who was awarded a $500 Washington Youth Tour Scholarship during her school’s honors program! 🎓

The Washington Youth Tour and these scholarships are funded primarily through Operation Round Up, a program made possible by Coastal Electric Cooperative members who choose to round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar. Those nickels and dimes are combined through the Coastal Electric Cooperative Foundation and invested back into our local communities to meet food, health, safety, education and shelter needs across the counties we serve.

We’re proud to support students like Hannah as they build bright futures. Thank you to our generous members for making it possible! 💙

Coastal Electric staff recently had the privilege of attending senior honors programs across our service territory to award scholarships to outstanding graduating seniors.

First up: Richmond Hill High School!

Congratulations to:
🎓 Zachary Ives and Ava Laidler — $2,250 Coastal Electric Cooperative Foundation Technical School Scholarship (renewable up to $10,000)
🎓 Elizabeth Latimer — the very first $5,000 John Toby Woods Jr. Marine & Natural Sciences Scholarship (renewable up to $20,000)
🎓 Stacy Armour — $5,000 Coastal Electric Cooperative Foundation Academic Scholarship (renewable up to $20,000)
🎓 Delaney Thompson and Olivia Tiede — $2,500 Washington Youth Tour Scholarship

These scholarships are funded in part through Operation Round Up, a program made possible by Coastal Electric Cooperative members who choose to round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar. That small change makes a big difference right here in our community.
