We have decided to begin our recruitment process to fill the current and anticipated vacancies. The pension system will now accept CPATs from any certified location so we have the opportunity to expand our candidate pool by using the National Testing Network (NTN).

Through NTN, candidates wanting to apply for Midwest City can schedule a written and CPAT anytime during the 2 month period (Sept. 1 to Nov 1). It is our hope that the convenience of this will make our process more user friendly and help us capture more candidates. The written and CPAT can also be taken at any NTN location from Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center (eoctech) in Choctaw to Lima Ohio so any out of state candidates looking to return to or move to Oklahoma will only have to travel in for interviews and follow up testing/backgrounds.

Spirit Torch - Midwest City Welcome Monument
A construction project more than a decade in the making became a reality for City staff last weekend as the primary pieces for Spirit Torch were installed at I-40 and Hudiburg Dr. Anchored by a tiered concrete base that has been in place since October 2020, Spirit Torch creates an impressive welcome sign for eastbound travelers on I-40 in Midwest City.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the 2021 Mommy & Son Field Day is canceled due to predicted weather. From our partners at the National Weather Service: Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected Saturday afternoon through the overnight hours in association with a cold front. Damaging wind gusts between 60 to 80 mph and up to golf ball size hail are the potential hazards with any severe thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding is also possible.

We will be issuing refunds for all tickets purchased to the event.

Fireworks (even sparklers) are illegal in our city limits.
Fireworks are a source of stress for our Veterans who suffer from PTSD. Most dogs are afraid of loud noises and more pets are lost on the 4th of July than any other day. For more information on the topic, please visit bit.ly/mwcfireworksinfo
Please be a good neighbor and don't set off fireworks in your neighborhood.

The Midwest City Fire Department would like to make it's yearly reminder that we DO NOT fill swimming pools. We receive numerous calls each year, so in an effort to help educate the masses we are making this post. Our firetrucks typically have less than 1,000 gallons of water and rely on the hydrants & excellent water system the city maintains. We have no tanker "tinder" trucks in our fire fleet. For reference, a typical in-ground pool can require 20,000-40,000 gallons of water and even a small above ground is about 5,000 gallons.

Thank you citizens of Midwest City for your continued support and we wish would could be of service for you for this, but unfortunately we cannot. Have a safe and fun summer!

Midwest City: Our Story!

Midwest City was founded in 1942 by Oklahoma businessman and builder W.P. โ€œBillโ€ Atkinson. Atkinson learned of the United States Armyโ€™s desire to build a new airfield in the center of the country, the largest military base to ever be built, and knew central Oklahoma was the perfect location. He purchased thousands of acres of undeveloped land and began developing homes, schools, churches, parks, entertainment and shopping, creating a self-contained city for military personnel and the civilian work force. Almost simultaneously, Midwest Air Depot rose from the plains and all-important work began.

During World War II, the Midwest City Douglas Aircraft Company Plant constructed more than half of the 10,000 C-47 Skytrain United States Army cargo planes. The plant cost $24 million to build and rolled out its first C-47s in March 1943. Some 38,000 Oklahomans worked at the plant, the majority of them women. The plant closed on August 17, 1945, and was redesignated as Building 3001. On November 1, 1945, it was transferred to the Oklahoma City Air Technical Service Command and is now the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center.

Midwest Air Depot was renamed on January 13, 1948 to Tinker Air Force Base to honor Major General Clarence Tinker, a member of Osage Nation, from Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He was the first American general to be killed on a mission in World War II as he was leading a flight of B-24โ€™s Liberators near Wake Island. Atkinson worked fervently to create Midwest City, thinking through every detail in order to please families. He built and sold each home with a value-added incentive of owning a Shetland pony that he would house in a pony barn on the grounds of his mansion that is now deemed part of the historical museum, the Atkinson Heritage Center.

Over the next several decades, Midwest City became home to countless service men and women as well as thriving business development with opportunities for employment and education, fulfilling the quality of life needs of the community. Midwest Cityโ€™s Memorial Hospital opened in 1962 and Oscar Rose Junior College in 1970, followed by the General Motors Assembly Plant in 1979. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Midwest City earned numerous awards such as the โ€œTree City USAโ€ award from the Arbor Day Foundation and continued growth by establishing the Midwest City Library, an animal shelter, an industrial park and business park, nature trails and more.

What is going to replace the Smart Saver on SE 15th & Post Road? They are closing this weekend and no one can tell us anything.
Need someone to stop by my house with some dirt.. need to fill a hole in my yard caused by the crane during the limbs pick-up.
Can y'all have someone come out and check people's water meters? I've asked multiple times and just get told that it's read off of the computers in the building. Something is off. I've lived in my home for 9 years. The first 8 yrs my bill averaged $70 a month. I had a water leak over the summer causing my bill to go up to around $140. I had it fixed 4 MONTHS ago and my bill is STILL double what it used to be. My bill this month is $170! There is no reason it should be that high. 8 yrs of a $70 bill and after a water leak that was fixed it's now $170? Months after the fact? Something's not right. A lot of of other people on the nextdoor app are having the same issues with their bills being a lot higher than normal as well, so it's not just me.
We live in the Traub Addition we have had tree branches lined up at the curb every since the ice storm as of today 12/29/2020 we have not seen anyone in here to even start picking them up So when will they start getting these limbs out of here
I just want to give a HUGE kudos to our recycling pickup team. They went above and beyond in our cul-de-sac. Even with this wind, they took the time and effort to make sure that everything was put into the compactor. With the holidays looming and how this year has gone, Iโ€™m blessed to see this determination when someone so easily could just let it go. THANK YOU GUYS!!!
