The Central Juniata Park Pool in Mifflin will be holding lifeguard recertification and lifeguard training/certification classes; each class needs a minimum of 5 participants. Recertification class will be held on Thursday June 4th or Friday June 5th. This will take place in the morning, starting at 8 AM. The number or recerts will determine the amount of time. The cost for recertification will be $75 Lifeguard training will be held during the week of June 8th. This is a 22 hour course with 8 hours of virtual pre-class work. The course will take place over 3 days. The mornings will be held at the pool doing the in water portions and then move to a nearby location to be determined to continue with the book and first aid portions. The cost will be $200. Potential guards must meet the listed requirements pass the swim perquisites before taking the class.
Requirements
– Must be 15 years or older
– Must complete 8 hours of online learning before the first class
– Must attend all class sessions
– Must pass a written test and final skill assessments
Swim Prerequisites
Participants must complete the following:
– Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence:
Swim 150 yards (6 lengths of the pool)
Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs
Swim 50 yards (2 lengths of the pool)
Timed Event (1 min 40 sec):
Swim 20 yards
Surface dive to retrieve a 10 lb brick
Swim 20 yards on back holding the brick
Exit the pool without using a ladder or steps
– Prerequisites must be completed on or before the first day of class

Class fees are non-refundable if you are unable to attend all sessions or pass the required skills.
