We are so blessed to live in a community that works together to make dreams come true, legacies continue forward, and builds leaders that help preserve the county for the next generation! The Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce 2026 Leadership Class knocked it out of the park with this project and Generations Day yesterday! JPH Enterprises helped us every step of the way with the bricks. Businesses such as Fisher Brothers, Trego Electric, Route 333, Sunrise Greenhouse, DuMor, and all the others listed on the plaque in the photos, were so generous. AND YOU… the brick sponsors! We had a dream, but it was all of you who made it happen - we will be forever grateful to all of you. Being the stewards of your history is an honor.

A true community collaboration this morning at the old Mifflintown Canal House! As many of you know, we are applying for grants to be able to take ownership from PennDOT and restore the building and lock into something to be proud of again. Bless all these organizations and businesses who donated their time and services on a Saturday morning! We will be able to include their estimates to make a more complete grant application. We have big visions for that place and are so thankful for the community and volunteers who make the magic happen!

This year you can see these items beginning on our opening day Sunday June 7 at 1:30.

Over 150 years ago, “Decoration Day” began to honor those who died in the Civil War by adorning their graves with flowers.
Although many states (in the North and South) claim to be the first, the G.A.R. Is largely credited for the official organization of the annual holiday. The Grand Army of the Republic (a civil war veterans organization) had a wide network and a deep loyalty to their fallen comrades. The G.A.R. not only honored their brothers at their graves, they also pushed for veterans pensions and created Soldiers Orphans Schools.
The G.A.R.’s Maj. Gen. John A. Logan’s order for his posts to decorate graves in 1868 “with the choicest flowers of springtime” urged: “We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. … Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.”
Today we call it Memorial Day and honor the veterans of all wars. 🇺🇸
The cannon and limber used by Mifflintown’s G.A.R. Post at decoration day ceremonies and civil war veteran funerals are on display at our museum which opens next Sunday June 6th from 1:30-4pm.

Volunteers completed the spring cleaning of the Pomeroy-Academia Covered Bridge and the Tuscarora Academy Museum today. Our volunteers are amazing! And we even got an assist from our friends at Beale Township Fire Company No. 5 which is especially fitting because this cleaning enables The Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of PA to apply a new coat of fire retardant on this historic architectural gem.
The academy cleaning always takes more time. Mopping, dusting, glass cases, cobwebs,… truly a labor of love.

This Saturday May 16 is our annual Spring Cleaning Day in Academia. If anyone is interested and available to help, we start at the covered bridge at 9am and will head over to the academy around 11am.
For those working at the bridge we can use rakes, shovels, brooms, trimmers, gas powered blowers and a chainsaw either battery or gas powered. Also pruning tools and tall grass trimmers would be helpful. Perhaps some rags and cleaner, with bleach or alcohol, to remove mold on the signs and benches.
At the academy, you can bring things like rags, floor swiffers, etc. There are a few cleaning supplies and tools already there.
