A life long resident of Milan Ga. My Mother is Annette Jones Wood and my grandparents were L .C. and Julia Williams Jones. My Father was William C. " Bobby" Wood he was killed in a car/train accident in 1965 before my birth, he held a Milan city council seat at the time of his death. My mom was at one time the city secretary so I grew up as a child in downtown Milan everyday. Those were the good ole days.

Our community grieves the loss of a constant in our lives for many years, the passing of Eli White. He walked many a mile in our presence, fueled by a motive that only he understood. He was omnipresent, casting few if any dispersion, and reminding us of an understanding of what humility and contentment defines.
Eli lived a reclusive, yet public life, amongst others who witnessed the contrast of his values to those who fail to understand the irony of life simple. He will be missed as a staple of Milan, Georgia.
The Milan Development Authority expresses condolence to his family and friends, and to our town which has lost an humble icon.
On behalf of many citizens of Milan, and those who have moved away but still remember “Eli,” we announce the creation of a remembrance in his honor.
We wish to memorialize him by erecting plaques on US Hwy 280 acknowledging his walking path. Additionally, we would like to create a fund to restore and rebuild the existing playground and dedicate it as “Eli’s Park,” utilizing whimsical and repurposed equipment, representing Eli’s love of “thrift.”
Contributions may be made in person at Milan City Hall, mailed to PO Box 87 Milan, GA, or dropped into the secure box at the window. Please identify the contribution as “Memorial Fund for Eli White.”
Greatness is measured in inches; not miles, and every step counts. We are either moving toward something or away. It is the journey; not the destination, that is remembered. Eli’s journey was unique, and we are enriched having shared it.
