The Blackhawk Fire Protection District is very proud to announce the appointment of FF/EMT Chris Fillmer to EMS Coordinator of the Blackhawk Fire Protection District!!

FF/EMT Fillmer will manage the training, certification, and records for the EMTs and EMR's and the Emergency Medical Services Division of the BFPD.

🚨 URGENT SAFETY MESSAGE 🚨

Blackhawk Fire Protection District has been made aware of a serious public health threat.

A rare and dangerous species of fungi has been appearing in yards and wooded areas throughout the Fire District. Known as “ascomycetous macrofungi” morels, these fungi have been rumored to cause severe illness, hair loss, gingivitis, and uncontrollable urges to cook with butter.

⚠️ DO NOT APPROACH THESE DANGEROUS FUNGI.

⚠️ DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THEM YOURSELF.

⚠️ DO NOT PLACE THEM IN A skillet.

Specially trained fungi disposal and eradication specialists are standing by to respond to your property and safely remove these hazardous mushrooms.

It was a busy day for the BFPD!

Recap:

1. Assisted Reynolds Fire Protection District with a structure fire and field fire.

2. Called for Brush Fire at Ridgewood Road and 92nd Ave W.

3. Immediately called for a 2nd Brush Fire on 51st St. W. at the same time. Split crews and called for Coyne Center.

4. Responded to a brush fire in Coyne Center while they handled our second brush fire.

Four fires in less than 12 hours.

🔥Joint-District Training🔥

Tonight, the Coal Valley Fire Protection District, the Coyne Center Fire Protection District, and the Blackhawk Fire Protection District joined forces to hold our first monthly joint-district training session.

Our districts work together on incidents almost every day. We recognize that we cannot be as safe and efficient as possible if we do not also train together.

Tonight, more than 30 full-time, part-time, and volunteer members from all three departments came together to train on Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), Mayday procedures, and firefighter rescue techniques.

When our departments combine our efforts to get better, every one of our communities benefits.
