I sure hope they fix Platt rd from Cone to town before they start working on Wabash. I haven’t seen a Road grader yet this year on that section of Platt. It’s the worst it’s been in years.

Your Milan Area Firefighters would like to recognize Firefighter Matthew Caudill on his safe return home following a year-long overseas deployment with the Michigan Army National Guard.

Matt was part of the 1171st Medical Company Area Support based out of Ypsilanti, which deployed under U.S. Central Command in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. During this deployment, his unit provided medical command and control, force health protection, medical operations, and direct patient care for U.S. and coalition personnel.

We are proud to have multiple firefighters who serve both our community and our country. Matt’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment reflect the highest standards of the fire service and the military.

Welcome home Matt, and thank you for your service!

MILESTONE RECOGNITION - Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Daniel Carpus on reaching 25 years of service with the Milan Area Fire Department.

Before joining our department, Firefighter Carpus also served 17 years in New York, bringing his total to over four decades in the fire service.

As the most senior member of our department, Firefighter Carpus plays a critical role in our operations. He is a go-to resource for training, especially in pump operations, and takes pride in passing down knowledge and experience to the next generation of firefighters.

His dedication and commitment to the job has made a lasting impact on this department and the community we serve.

Thank you for your continued service to the Milan area. We are grateful to have you and look forward to many more years.

MARCH SUMMARY - As we share our March run summary, we want to help the community better understand an important part of emergency response called turnout time.

Turnout time is the amount of time between when a 911 call is dispatched and when our apparatus responds. We share this information so residents understand that response times can vary depending on the time of day. When our station is staffed, crews are ready to respond immediately. During overnight hours, firefighters respond from home, which adds additional time before units respond.

In March, our average turnout times were:
Staffed: 1 minute 49 seconds
Unstaffed (responding from home): 7 minutes 20 seconds

While we respond as quickly as possible at all times, this difference highlights why some calls, particularly overnight, may take longer for crews to arrive.

The City of Milan has recently announced a potential tax proposal to support 24/7 station staffing. We are happy to answer any questions and provide additional information to help residents better understand how staffing impacts response.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support of your fire department!
