Public Service Announcement: Over the last two days multiple wildfires have been started due to sparks from moving vehicles.

Dragging chains can send you straight down the road to trouble.
Loose or dragging trailer chains can throw sparks and start roadside wildfires-it only takes one spark in dry conditions.
Before you hit the road-secure your chains and check your equipment.

Please celebrate responsibly!

This evening, Custer County Fire responded to a wildfire on Sheffield Road that was caused by fireworks.
While the landscape may look green, there's still a significant amount of old, dead grass underneath that will burn very easily. It doesn't take much for a firework to ignite it and start a wildfire.

As we head into the 4th of July holiday, we'd like to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly.
We all enjoy fireworks, but taking them out into the county and lighting them off along roadways or on property you do not own is not a good idea. Dry conditions mean it only takes one spark to start a wildfire that can quickly get out of control.
If you start a fire because of negligent use of fireworks, you will be held criminally responsible and face charges, including negligent arson, along with being held liable for the costs associated with suppressing the fire and any damages caused.
Please use fireworks only in safe, legal locations where you have permission. Respect private property, be aware of your surroundings, and always have water or a fire extinguisher readily available.
Let's all do our part to keep our communities, our neighbors, and our firefighters safe while still enjoying the holiday.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday, and thank you for helping prevent unnecessary wildfires.
