7-28-26 * Available for adoption* adult male Charlie blue heeler and hound came to us awhile back but was not posted as we were working with his owner who was homeless at the time. His owner still can not find a residence and it has been long enough he needs out of the shelter. He is good with people but does not like other animals especially small ones. If you are interested in helping him out with a new home call Dispatch at 232-3411.

On behalf of the Miles City Animal Shelter, our dedicated officers, deputies, dispatchers and the Custer County community, thank you so much for this incredible recognition and kind words.

It can be certainly a daily challenge, but milestones like this make every long drive and late night completely worth it. We are immensely proud of our local police department, county deputies, dispatchers,partner rescues, and amazing community members—without their constant support and teamwork, this achievement wouldn't be possible.

We deeply appreciate the work Best Friends Animal Society does across the country to inspire and support shelters like ours. Thank you for celebrating this win with us and for being a constant champion for saving lives!

🚨 WEATHER ALERT: Protect Your Pets From Extreme Heat! 🚨Animal Control is issuing an urgent public safety announcement regarding the upcoming high heat index. When temperatures and humidity rise, heat becomes a silent killer for animals. Please take immediate action to keep your pets and local wildlife safe.

🏠 Keep Pets Indoors.
Air Conditioning: Keep pets inside a cool, air-conditioned room. Fans Aren't Enough: Dogs and cats do not sweat like humans. Fans alone cannot cool them down when it is extremely hot.

Shade and Water: If a pet must be outside briefly, provide continuous access to deep shade and fresh, ice-cold water.🐾

Protect Their Paws: The 7-Second Rule: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for their paws.

Walk Early or Late: Limit exercise to the early morning or late evening when the asphalt has cooled down.

Stick to Grass: Walk your pets on grassy areas instead of concrete or asphalt to prevent painful paw burns.

🚗 NEVER Leave Pets in CarsFatal Temperatures: A car's internal temperature can skyrocket by 20 degrees in just 10 minutes, even with windows cracked.

Not Worth the Risk: Leave your pets at home when running errands. If you see a distressed animal locked in a hot car, call Animal Control or 911 immediately.⚠️

Know the Signs of Heatstroke: Watch your animals closely for these life-threatening symptoms;
Heavy, frantic panting or gasping for air.
Excessive drooling or thick saliva.
Bright red, gray, or purple gums and tongue.
Lethargy, weakness, dizziness, or collapse.
Vomiting or diarrhea if you suspect heatstroke, move the animal to the shade, apply cool (not freezing) water to their body, and rush them to an emergency veterinarian.
