Today I regretfully resigned from the Holland Township Committee since I will be moving out of the township shortly.
Serving the residents of Holland Township has been a profound honor, and I have enjoyed working with Mayor Bush and the rest of the township committee, as well as all township employees and volunteers. Each of these public servants work tirelessly to safeguard our tax dollars, maintain our public buildings and roads, preserve our pristine undeveloped land, and uphold the township's reputation as a safe haven for families.
I first joined the Township Committee in the Spring of 2019. Over the past five years, we have tackled many issues by working together, collaboratively. We made the difficult decision to sell the “Park House” at Bethany Ridge, to free up township resources and create a ratable property. We continued participation in litigation to thwart the Penn East Pipeline from coming through our township. During the pandemic, our Parks & Rec. Committee developed safe activities for bored residents to engage in, including a Holiday House Decorating Contest. We passed an ordinance to require residents to remove junk vehicles and other debris from their property. To protect our quality of life, we opted out of all forms of cannabis sales and distribution in our township. We worked with our school to assist in bringing in a full-time, armed resource officer to guard our most valuable asset – our children. The Committee continues to upkeep the Riegel Ridge Community Center, which serves as the jewel of Holland Township. Notably, this unwavering commitment to quality of life has been upheld while keeping our tax rate flat.
I am particularly grateful for the culture of collaboration and civility that defines our Township Committee. Under the leadership of Mayor Bush, the Committee has navigated through disagreements with grace and resolved conflicts through constructive dialogue, always striving to reach consensus. While consensus is undoubtedly a laudable goal, I urge my colleagues to recognize that robust debate and the willingness to challenge the status quo often yield superior outcomes.
Although I am moving, I will continue to follow “Holland Happenings,” since the place where I raised my children will always have a special place in my heart. I wish you all peace and happiness.
With Warm Regards,
Lisa
