Today I regretfully resigned from the Holland Township Committee since I will be moving out of the township shortly.

Serving the residents of Holland Township has been a profound honor, and I have enjoyed working with Mayor Bush and the rest of the township committee, as well as all township employees and volunteers. Each of these public servants work tirelessly to safeguard our tax dollars, maintain our public buildings and roads, preserve our pristine undeveloped land, and uphold the township's reputation as a safe haven for families.

I first joined the Township Committee in the Spring of 2019. Over the past five years, we have tackled many issues by working together, collaboratively. We made the difficult decision to sell the “Park House” at Bethany Ridge, to free up township resources and create a ratable property. We continued participation in litigation to thwart the Penn East Pipeline from coming through our township. During the pandemic, our Parks & Rec. Committee developed safe activities for bored residents to engage in, including a Holiday House Decorating Contest. We passed an ordinance to require residents to remove junk vehicles and other debris from their property. To protect our quality of life, we opted out of all forms of cannabis sales and distribution in our township. We worked with our school to assist in bringing in a full-time, armed resource officer to guard our most valuable asset – our children. The Committee continues to upkeep the Riegel Ridge Community Center, which serves as the jewel of Holland Township. Notably, this unwavering commitment to quality of life has been upheld while keeping our tax rate flat.

I am particularly grateful for the culture of collaboration and civility that defines our Township Committee. Under the leadership of Mayor Bush, the Committee has navigated through disagreements with grace and resolved conflicts through constructive dialogue, always striving to reach consensus. While consensus is undoubtedly a laudable goal, I urge my colleagues to recognize that robust debate and the willingness to challenge the status quo often yield superior outcomes.

Although I am moving, I will continue to follow “Holland Happenings,” since the place where I raised my children will always have a special place in my heart. I wish you all peace and happiness.

With Warm Regards,
Lisa

We have all seen the stories of illegal migrants breaking into vacant homes (or sometimes even occupied homes) and squatting there, rent-free. Homeowners are then required to spend legal fees and it often takes months of litigation to get these criminals out of homes. The Holland Twp. Committee just passed a resolution supporting NJ Senate Bill 725, which makes it a criminal offense to squat in someone else's home, so that police may immediately arrest these intruders. Thank you, Senators Testa, Polistina, and our own Senator Steinhardt for standing up for homeowners.

Thanks to the Hunterdon County Commissioners, with assistance from our State Senator, Assemblymen, and Congressman Tom Kean, the Governor has backed off on his plan to house illegal migrants at Hagedorn. "Hunterdon County taxpayers should not be shouldering the expense or burden of a broken federal immigration system."

IMPORTANT DEL VAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT:

There will be a special meeting of the BOE on May 8th at 7pm in the Del Val Cafeteria, to discuss the possibility of going forward with a REGIONALIZATION STUDY, for the purposes of combining the administrations of all sending districts. Regionalization would mean that one township could end up flipping the bill for the students of another township. It will also mean that the priorities of one township (ie: Frenchtown) could be imposed upon another township (ie: Holland).

Prior Regionalization Studies have cost between $50,000 - $75,000. Only one district in the entire State has completed the regionalization process – South Hunterdon. Unfortunately, the regionalization ended up being a nightmare for one of the participating townships. The Township of West Amwell failed to see any cost savings from regionalization, so much so that the township has filed a lawsuit. I spoke with the former Mayor of West Amwell, Zachary Rich (who is now a County Commissioner). Commissioner Rich advised that the study is always skewed towards Regionalization, and that one township will always be giving in to the priorities of another township, for little savings. Accordingly, I see no reason to go down the path of incurring the expense of a Regionalization Study.

To hear more about the Regionalization Study, please be sure to attend the meeting tonight.

Lawsuit filed in Superior Court is challenging the election results and has stopped the South Hunterdon district from starting work on the project.
