We lost a one of the good ones yesterday, Former Milford resident and Milford Fire Fighter & EMT Gary Toelstede passed away unexpectedly yesterday.

All of us at the station are thinking of Gary’s family and friends at this time.

Gary was always a very proactive part of our department, he was in charge of organizing and arranging all our fundraisers for the firefighters for years.

He worked in town at the Birds Nest making it very helpful to go on EMS & Fire/Rescue calls during the day hours when many of us work out of town.

Always building or crafting something at the firestation, from shelving & paper towel holders for the bathroom or making a memorial cabinet for a fallen fellow firefighter.

Yes, when we say Gary was one of the good ones, we mean it, he really was.
His kind heart, willingness to help others and just being his silly funny self made you feel good to be around him.

We will miss you Toelstede, may you rest in peace brother ❤️🔥🚒

Just a friendly reminder with the cold snap coming up this week and into the weekend…

Please cover-insulate any exposed water pipes/faucets you might have outside or if you have a “cold” crawlspace if possible.
Also turn both your cold and hot water on the furthest faucet from your main water line coming into your home to a drip.
It’s also a good idea to open your cabinet doors under your sink to any pipes on the outer wall of your house, the heat from your home can help heat under the sink to those outer walls/pipes exposed to the outside wall, especially at night when it gets the coldest.

Also want to remind people using electric heaters to make sure they are plugged into a properly wired outlet for the proper wattage electric heater you are using, the typical electric heater uses between 400 to 1500 watts, so each electric heater needs its own circuit.

And NEVER use an extension cord on an electric heater. Those brown extension cords you buy for a lamp extension cord are NOT rated for an electric heater and is one of the most leading causes of house fires in the winter time.
And NEVER NEVER leave an electric heater unattended!! Please stay safe and warm out there-VOM & MFPD
