Friends for Gary Wolfe Website to reach those I would serve if elected to office

The 35th Representative district sits centrally in Sussex County just west of a rapidly growing beach area that has seen a financial windfall, and just east of an area that has seen jobs leave and schools struggling to educate the next generation. The district also lacks the infrastructure to support 21st century businesses, including farming so the median salary in the district still falls below

the livable wage numbers. The 35th needs a representative in Dover that works for all groups in the district ensuring we balance the past with the future. The state continues to “gray” as our next generation leaves the state for better options in the surrounding states, and even the family farms will continue to struggle unless we help them be 21st century ready. We must educate the children so they are ready for the pathway they chose either college ready or heading to a trade that will serve them in the future. Delaware will continue to struggle financially until we bring in and support businesses that pay a livable wage so the state is not supporting those employed by businesses paying low wages. I believe my experiences and education will make me a representative who can look at issues the state is facing with a new focus one that works to improve the lives of ALL groups in Delaware.

AS seems like a site has seen a few views thought I would post my hopes that someone will step up and run against the "Rude, Crude" Sussex Councilman from the Georgetown area!

So been a while but have been considering another run for Sussex County Council wonder what my friends think? If I do will need a few hands to help and certainly some financial backing as last run emptied the “war chest”. Lets hear the comments.

Well earlier tonight i was reading a tweet posted to CNN about our unstable leader and his bragging about shutting down the government again. His actual language was directed at the Democratic members of Congress and spoken in a manner meant to intimidate them into passing his immigration wishes. My issue with this was based on my Civics/Social Studies classes from High School which defines that High Crimes and Misdemeanors under the Impeachment clause includes abuse of authority, conduct unbecoming, and finally Intimidation. Now excuse me but calling elected officials Treasonous, then threatening to shutdown the government, and in the same breathe requesting a military parade so you can look like Putin, or Hi**er just reeks of abuse of power to me.

Happy 2018 and lets hope the mid-term elections have the enthusiasm we saw in the recent Alabama election as we need changes to happen. Its a good year to be from party not associated with our current President!

So been sometime since posted here and not sure if any one is interested, but have to say was impressed with how Ms Yates handled herself today in that hearing. Good Job.

Looking at just days before the country and state determine their course for the next 4 years, and I like so many are ready for the whole thing to be over as tired of where it has taken the people of this nation. Both parties have pointed at the other as the reason for our current situations yet we have had one party rules in both the federal and state levels with neither able to do what needs to be done. The reason I decided to run again even against the odds was I believed if we could stop focusing on party, and focus again on the people who vote us into office just maybe things could change, call me optimistic. Delaware has a very diverse population that is different both north and south, as well as, east and west something that anyone elected to office needs to address if they truly want to REPRESENT the people! Tuesday Nov 8th vote for the person you feel will work with ALL groups to work FOR the people of Delaware not just AGAINST the other party! I believe I am one of those candidates, Gary Wolfe for the 35th District and Delaware!

The questionaire from the local Beacon and my answers:
General Election Questions

1. Please provide us with a personal and professional bio and photograph to be used with the following questions.
A 1981 graduate of Milford High School, currently residing on Abbotts Pond Rd with his wife of 31 years, Jackie. They have three sons, Gary II, Christopher, and Scott who are currently attending colleges in Texas, Mass., and Newark. From 2002 to 2012, served 10 years on the Milford school Board, also serving 5 years on the Board of Directors of the Delaware School Board Association. Community involvement also included 16 years as a member of the Carlisle Fire Company, 13 years as a Boy Scout Leader and currently a member of the Harrington Loyal Order of Moose. When not working or spending time with their boys, Mr. Wolfe likes to work on cars, ride motorcycles, and spend time with his beagle pups.
Mr. Wolfe is currently employed since Feb 2016 as an Operations Manager at a Propane/Welding materials supplier in Salisbury, MD. Prior to that he worked as an Operations Manager for an Environmental consultant, and 25 years with Merck Animal Health in Millsboro, De. Mr. Wolfe looks to use his 25+ years in business and his school board service to work to ensure that today’s students have the skills necessary to succeed in the job market of tomorrow, and to see the state and local communities work together to see there are jobs paying a living wage, here in Sussex County for the next generation.

2. What is your opinion of Delaware’s overall financial health and what can be done to strengthen it? Delaware’s financial health is best described as fair to poor as we continue to “kick the can down the road” rather than truly balance the state’s budget. Both parties have their ideas of how to balance but the truth is neither cutting alone nor taxing more is going to solve the budget picture. The state needs to find new revenue streams and that means putting its citizens to work in jobs that pay livable wages. To this end the legislature and local governments need to work on what issues are preventing companies from moving to Delaware including things like regulations, infrastructure, and worker education/training.

3. Do you believe Delaware’s economy is getting better, worse or stagnant and what can legislators do to help build a strong economy? I believe I answered part of this question, but to clarify the economy is showing growth along our coastline, but inland areas continue to struggle to support their citizenship. Balancing these two involves realizing that tourism alone cannot balance the financials, and that some industries being relied on have consequences that involve the state’s environmental health.

4. What current challenges are present with Delaware’s infrastructure and roadways and how can these challenges be met? What role will you play? The largest infrastructure issue is the lower half of the state continues to struggle with high speed communication tools that today’s businesses need to succeed. Working with local governments and providers is the first step legislators take to start addressing this issue. The next issue is roadways as we’ve worked hard to move tourist down to the beaches, but many areas still provide challenges to businesses moving materials from manufacturing to market.

5. With many public school districts struggling to meet operating expenses and overcrowding, what are your ideas to meet these challenges? The first issue needing to be addressed is equalization funding for districts as many districts where poverty is highest don’t have the funding seen in other districts along our coastline. The way to address this involves an antiquated funding formula that many see as political su***de because it involves reassessing the property values in the counties that have not been done in 10+ years. Funding should be based on need not where a student resides.

6. As health care costs continue to rise, what can be done to ensure that families can afford quality coverage? The first is giving them a livable wage that allows them to provide for their families without having to decide what they have to do without. Then continue to support those agencies that assist with providing health care based on need and not ability to pay, such as LaRed and others like them.

7. If voted into office, how will you communicate with constituents and ensure public transparency during your term? I have been using tools such as social media and electronic communications to reach those who will listen since I joined the school board back in 2002. I see sitting down regularly with community groups as another tool and to ensuring the citizens of the 35th can reach me if they have questions or concerns.

8. Why should residents vote for you on Tuesday, November 8? Delaware continues to struggle and I’ve talked with many who believe it’s time for change, and new ideas are needed in Dover to address the concerns for jobs and wages that leave many hanging on not realizing the dream. I see our best and brightest leaving our state, including my own sons, in droves as we push them to go to college yet we offer them no options for employment in our state that involve the STEM education of the 21st century we are struggling to provide. The state has a history based on the tourism and agricultural industries, but to grow Delaware needs to look at bringing in industries paying higher livable wages.

Earlier this week I received a survey in the mail asking as a candidate what was my stand on Delaware as a sanctuary state specifically SB60 bill introduced previously in state legislature. Well I had not answered this piece of mail when this weekend I see a facebook post from the Republican party folks asking citizens to question their Democratic legislators and candidates where they stand on this legislation. Attached to the post was a story about 4 DSU bound students executed in Newark, NJ in which the story points to an illegal alien as the the responsible party and blames NJ's sanctuary status as the reason. The suspect was wanted on numerous crimes including r**e and was at large when the crime took place so the artcle leads the readers to the conclusion this type of legislation was to blame for these students being killed unneccessarily.
Well like the national political parties this article is meant to anger and stir emotions to benefit one parties idea of what is important to the voters. I did not think I had to fact check these local party folks, but I did and what I found was the correct news on a local stations reporting, http://www.wboc.com/story/9017395/6-indicted-in-killings-of-dsu-students
Yes this individual was involved in the killings, but he was not alone and this was found to be a gang related issue and involved illegally obtained guns. The sanctuary legislation does have issues and flaws which is why it was strickened last legislative session in Delaware, but again reporting half a truth and using emotions to win elections keeps some politicians in Delaware from addressing the real issues in the state, ie. Budgets, Jobs, Livable Wages, and failing infrastructures.

The Cape Gazette asked some questions that will be posted later next week. Here are my responses:
1) Is farmland/open space preservation important? As the state continues to see growth it is very important to have a plan to protect the environmentally sensitive areas of our state both along the coast, and near the natural areas of our inland parks. The charm of Sussex is not only its coast, but also the back areas that I have enjoyed riding my motorcycle around so how do we protect while growing? Are the days of million-dollar preservation initiatives from the state over? Yes, as the state cannot be the only entity working to protect these areas, the counties, and communities must be part of the picture as well.

2) Compared with other parts of the county, water-related issues in this district are minimal. Do you think that leads to a lack of consideration for the district when it comes to funding initiatives in that would benefit property owners in the western portion of the county? I don’t agree the water issues are minimal in the 35th district as we see issues throughout Sussex involving everything from excess nutrient usage, to septic failures, and industrial pollutants. Now if the county has seen less than its share of funding that goes back to is our public figures hearing and doing something for their constituents.

3) How would you improve the county's drug addiction services? The current drug resurfacing around the lower counties is He**in due to its low cost and ease of access for our youngest citizens. The schools is where we need to start educating and offering help for those affected by drugs. The other help would be extending the state’s current programs to the lower counties as other than private help there are few if any programs for those whose insurance does not offer help.
