Mayor Smith was honored to attend the annual Fire Department Memorial, dedicated to career firefighters of the Milford Fire Department.

Mayor Smith spoke to the community and began by sharing an observation from his recent participation in Career Day throughout the city’s schools.

“In our youth we dream of what we want to be when we grow up-the answer is often a firefighter or a police officer. Some actualize the dream such as those we honor at this moment.

My deepest respect, admiration, and appreciation for those who have lived the life of public service - who made the choice to put themselves in harm’s way everyday of their careers.

It’s right that each year we take a moment to reflect and honor those who are no longer here and that with intention we gather to remember and say thank you. These fine career firefighters went to bed each night having made Milford better. And I can assure our current firefighters should feel the same.

I offer my deepest gratitude on behalf of the city to those we lost and to those present for what you do for us, our community, everyday.

Thank you for making Milford better!”

This prom season Foran High School hosted the unified prom. The room was filled with students from places such as Madison, Stratford, Guilford, and Milford.
A warm, welcoming group of students of all abilities…..embracing togetherness, outwardly showing acceptance, enjoying an evening of vibrant music, lively dancing, infectious laughter, and shared joy.
Mayor Smith was right in the middle of the crowd, mingling and chatting with the students, feeling the unity as the celebration carried on.
What a moment of pure happiness …...
Way to celebrate and create memories!

Recently Mayor Smith met with ESL adult learners inside City Hall; the students were buzzing with excitement and beaming with pride as they experienced the space where elected officials normally occupy when discussing and voting on city issues. Mayor Smith welcomed the group and provided an overview of city government.

Each student then introduced themselves to Mayor Smith - who engaged each student in conversation, asking questions to learn a bit more. It was a prideful exchange, mixed with lots of laughter. Mayor Smith learned that students came from places such as Turkey, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Germany. Each student’s story was unique, but one common element among all students was their incredible courage and determination to become proficient with the English language. Students were quick to credit and show sincere gratitude and admiration for their teachers-Rachel, Pam, and Teresa, and program advisor, Justin-all of whom helped them learn.

The session ended with an explanation of one of the art creations, an arpillera, that the students had created and displayed on the wood panels of the chamber. An arpillera is colorful fabric scraps patched on burlap arranged to depict scenes of the artist’s life.

Mayor Smith was honored to participate in the BAPS Charities Annual Walkathon. BAPS is an international socio-spiritual Hindu charitable organization with a focus on service, compassion, community, unity, giving – all connected to the belief, “in the joy of others lies our own” the life motto of Pramukh Swami Maharaj.

This is the third year for the walkathon and year after year it has brought the Milford community together in increasing numbers to support The Boys and Girls Club of Milford, as the local beneficiary.

In Mayor Smith’s words to the group, he referred to his own goal of working every day to make Milford better and how being part of this event meant a lot; he was touched by the genuine kindness and real sincere desire to do good for others.

With deep appreciation to all present Mayor Smith shared one final message…. “At the end of the day, when you lay your head on your pillow, rest assure that you clearly made Milford, our community, better today. Thank you.”

☀️Boys and Girls Club of Milford Shines Once Again! ☀️

Mayor Smith spent time with an impressive teen led group known as E3-Environmental Education for Everyone. The primary focus of E3 is advocating for environmental education, protection, and sustainability- to leave behind an environment that is cleaner and more resilient.

In the time together the group presented to Mayor Smith a comprehensive overview of the team’s past, present, and future projects.. such as Restoration of Marshland, Butterfly Stop Over Plant, Coloring Activity Book, and Gutters to Gallery (partnering with MAC to paint storm drains on Broadway).

And of course Mayor Smith was right in there engaged, asking questions, learning, and sharing his thoughts.

Mayor Smith wrapped up the session with expressing how proud he is of the group and complimenting them on their efforts to leave Milford a little better every day…it’s exactly what we need and this group is doing it!

👏 Congratulations to Chief Anthony Fabrizi on his retirement. 👏

During a farewell retirement gathering Mayor Smith expressed sincere gratitude to Chief Anthony Fabrizi of the Milford Fire Department. Mayor Smith extended his appreciation to Chief Fabrizi’s family, wife Jennifer, and sons, Rocco and Anthony, who shared in the sacrifices, pride, and commitment that come with a life of public service.

Chief Fabrizi devoted thirty-two years of dedicated service to the Milford Fire Department and the City of Milford. During his years he rose through the ranks serving in operational, administrative, training, fire prevention, and leadership roles, including Interim Fire Chief and ultimately Fire Chief in 2023. His leadership, professionalism, and commitment to public safety have greatly benefited the residents, businesses, and visitors of Milford.

Thank you Chief Fabrizi for your hard work and contributions over the years. The City of Milford is grateful for your years of service and your lasting contributions to the Milford community. We wish you health and happiness in this new chapter.
