Just after 4:00 am MFD responded to a building fire on Beach Ave. First arriving crews reported smoke coming from the building and advanced a handline to the second floor where they found heavy fire. A second alarm was struck bringing additional units to help with backup handlines, search, ventilation overhaul and control of utilities. Crews did an outstanding job battling challenges due to additions and renovations. Multiple stairwells, old and new style construction make it difficult to find "hidden" fire. The single occupant was alerted in his sleep by working smoke detectors and exited the building unharmed. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
