He is the son of the late Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Menor and Lillian Menor. As a teenager, his family moved from Hilo to Central Oahu. After completing his secondary education at Iolani School, he went on to earn a B.A. degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where he was the commencement speaker, and a juris doctorate (J.D.) from Georgetown University Law Cente
r in Washington, D.C. After graduating from law school, Ron returned home to Central Oahu to raise a family and start a career. He served as a law clerk in the Hawaii Supreme Court, and later as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Hawaii before establishing his own law practice. Ron also chose to become involved in public service so he could make a difference in our community. He served as a legislator in both the state House of Representatives and the Senate where he effectively represented the interests of his constituents in Central and Leeward Oahu. In 2012, Ron was elected to the Honolulu City Council to represent District 9, which includes the communities of Mililani, Waikele, Waipahu, Village Park, Royal Kunia, and Ewa Beach. As a Councilmember, he served in important leadership positions on the Council. Ron formerly served as Council Chair and as Chair of two key committees: the Committee on Zoning, Planning and Housing, and the Committee on Executive Matters and Legal Affairs. In addition to representing his district as an elected official, Ron has been actively involved in community organizations such as the Mililani Lions Club, YMCA, Neighborhood Crime Watch Programs and School Community Councils (SCC). Ron is married to the former Patricia Leong, who taught at Helemano Elementary School for over 30 years. They have three sons: Benjamin, a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and twins Andrew and Anthony, a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a student at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), respectively.
