Meet Lawrence Brooks (aged 112), a proud member of our Allied Forces, and the oldest living WWII veteran.
Lawrence is pictured here wearing a copy of his old summer uniform and holding his 91st Engineer Battalion badge - the picture was taken during a recent stay in a New Orleans hospital.
Brooks, the son of Louisiana farmers and one of 15 children, was born in 1909, just north of Baton Rouge in Norwood. He grew up outside of Stephenson, Mississippi, a small sawmill town where his family moved to work during the depression.
"I just want to be remembered as a good soldier," said Lawrence.

Canyon Crisis and Resource Center has now give our 580 toys and other items with in the past full week to upper Canyon Familles and are now done and finished with the passing out of gifts for all ages! We really want to thank everyone who donated to us to make this the Best Christmas ever in the upper Canyon! The Crisis Center is not the only one to who has and is working tirelessly to make this the best ever Christmas many other groups and individuals put their own time and money out to be sure no one is left out! What amazing Communities we live in! People thinking of others and not themselves! Simply amazing! We are so blessed! Merry Christmas everyone!
If you still have bags to pick up be sure you get them today as we will be closed tomorrow until Tuesday morning.
Then the next step the Free Store is coming Wednesday January 3 and the work begins to get it Shopping ready! We will need lots of help then! Carpenters???? Volunteers? 503-897-2327 mill City!
