Hi, I’m Karen Pack and I’m running for a seat on our local Polk County Commissioner Board.
I have become concerned about the direction our county seems to be growing towards. After becoming an advocate for the Save Highway 9 Committee, and working with our local government agencies and representatives, my eyes were opened to both the good and bad in our government. I am concerned our county is caving in to the pressures of urban sprawl heading our way. I feel decisions are made before any citizen input has been heard or considered. I feel that outside sources and agencies are the ones deciding how our county should grow.
In going through this process, I feel our current board would benefit by having a better representation of the everyday hardworking citizens of Polk County. We the citizens are the wallets of our county. Citizen collaboration should be the guiding force for all decisions being made. We are being taxed out due to elevated property values and pushed out of our homes and businesses. We need to come together and be the force guiding our elected representatives.
I believe every community matters and every citizen counts. We can work together to grow in a way that supports and benefits the citizens of Polk County.
