🔥 A Reminder From Yesterday's Fire in the Marin Headlands

Yesterday's Tennessee Fire above Rodeo Beach was contained at just 3 acres thanks to a fast response from 60 firefighters and aerial support. But it's a clear reminder: wildfire season is here, and Mill Valley sits in a high fire-risk zone. Our first responders do a great job and are ready for anything that comes their way. Here's how you can be ready to help your family and community:

🎒 3 Ways to Be Prepared
1. Sign up for alerts. Register for AlertMarin and Nixle so you get real-time evacuation notices the moment they're issued. Don't wait for a red-flag day to find out you're not signed up.
AlertMarin: https://emergency.marincounty.gov/sign-alertmarin
Nixle: https://nixle.com/city/ca/mill-valley/

2. Make a "Go Bag." Keep emergency food, water, meds, important documents, chargers, and a change of clothes ready by the door so you can leave in minutes. And don’t forget your pets need a bag too.

3. Know at least 2 ways to evacuate — from your home and your neighborhood. Map out a primary and backup route now and make sure everyone in your household knows both. And remember to take only one car if possible, to help reduce traffic.

🤝 Get Involved: Join a Neighborhood Response Group (NRG)

Mill Valley's Neighborhood Response Groups are neighbors-helping-neighbors teams that prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters together. Whether you want to become a Block Captain or just plug into your local group:

Reach out to the Mill Valley Neighborhood Response Coordinator at [email protected] or the Southern Marin Fire District NRG Coordinator at [email protected]

We're safer when we're ready together.

PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) Starting Tomorrow, 7/15

PG&E is planning a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in parts of southern Marin County, including parts of Mill Valley, as soon as tomorrow, 7/15/26 at 2pm.

Plan for power outages by charging your medical devices, technology, and testing flashlights. Residents should also verify that their contact information is current with PG&E to receive outage notifications and ensure they are subscribed to AlertMarin to receive local emergency alerts and updates: https://emergency.marincounty.gov/sign-alertmarin

Only call 9-1-1 if experiencing a medical or life-threatening emergency. Please do not contact the Police Department unless you are experiencing an emergency.

Questions related to power outages or power restoration should be directed to PG&E: https://www.pge.com/en.html

PG&E is scheduled to open a Community Resource Center (CRC) at the Mill Valley Community Center, 180 Camino Alto at 12PM on 7/15/26.

Residents are encouraged to confirm whether their address is included in the potential outage area by checking PG&E notifications or visiting PG&E's website.

For PSPS updates and outage information from PG&E, visit https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/psps-updates/7day/ or call PG&E at (866) 743-6589.

For the latest information from the Marin County Office of Emergency Management visit https://emergency.marincounty.gov/

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE HARRISON SKATE PARK - The Harrison Skate Park will be temporarily closed from late June through early August while fencing is installed and site preparation work is completed for the interim campus.

The City and School District explored options to keep the skate park open during construction. Unfortunately, safety and insurance requirements associated with adjacent construction activities require temporary closure.

We understand this may be disappointing and appreciate the community's patience. The skate park is expected to reopen in early August.

During the closure, the nearest public skate parks are:
Scotty Lapp Memorial Skatepark
Pixley Avenue
Corte Madera, CA 94925

McInnis Skatepark
310 Smith Ranch Road
San Rafael, CA 94903

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we move forward with this important project.
