Marin transportation planners are aiming to improve how people interact with the county’s transit centers. A draft plan takes a look at key depots, including the ferry terminals in Larkspur, Sausalito and Tiburon, and six rail stations in Novato, San Rafael and Larkspur. Supervisor Mary Sackett: “This is really to say, here is how we can make improvements, which would make stations easier to access, more connected to other transit and mobility options, with a focus on safety and comfort.”

Marin transit has approved a plan to modernize three Highway 101 interchanges. The agency board voted to advance the projects to environmental review. The process will take about 3 years & cost about $12 million. Interchanges: Alameda del Prado & Nave Drive in Novato; Manuel T. Freitas Parkway in San Rafael; & East Blithedale Avenue and Tiburon Boulevard in Enjoy Mill Valley. The vote came after transportation planners held workshops with local reps to reduce the number of proposed alternatives for each interchange to cut study costs. The number of alternatives was reduced from 6 to 3 for the San Rafael site & 4 to three for the Mill Valley interchange. https://www.marinij.com/2026/06/02/marin-agency-advances-highway-101-interchange-projects

Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit’s critical sales tax extension appeared to be charging toward passage Tuesday. With 100% of precincts reporting, results from Marin show 70.25% of voters in favor and 29.75% opposed. In Sonoma County, with 72% of precincts reporting, returns showed 70.44% voted yes and 29.56% were opposed. Marin County has 173,082 registered voters, while there are 319,260 in Sonoma County. The citizens’ initiative requires a simple majority vote to win, as opposed to a traditional two-thirds threshold. If the measure fails, the existing tax will expire on June 30, 2029. Suzanne Smith: “We couldn’t be more pleased with the results we’re seeing right now think it’s a testament to SMART as an organization and the services they provide to the community. We, as a committee, were lucky enough to have such a great project to sell to voters, to tell voters about, and voters see that value, so we’re pretty excited.”

The stage is set for Marin County supervisors to end a decade-long fight by granting final approval to a major development proposal in Strawberry. The supervisors are scheduled on Tuesday to take up the North Coast Land Holdings proposal for the 127-acre former Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary campus. The proposal calls for 337 residences with 859 bedrooms that would replace 139 of the 152 housing sites. Seventy of the new dwellings would be reserved as below market rate.
The project also calls for a 267,354-square-foot residential care center that would contain 100 independent living apartments, 50 assisted living and memory care apartments and a 20,000-square-foot building for a preschool and fitness center. The 150 dwellings for seniors are counted as a single residence under state law. https://www.marinij.com/2026/06/06/major-strawberry-development-project-on-brink-of-approval/

Marin County budget faces possible revenue challenges: Marin County supervisors are reviewing a proposed budget that features $8.25 million in one-time spending, including $1.5 million to cushion the blow of House Resolution 1, the federal legislation known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” released the $902M proposed budget for public review. Josh Swedberg, the county’s budget director: “We are forecasted to remain balanced over the coming 3 years, given our current assumptions. We need to stay nimble and pay attention.”
The remaining $6.75 million in recommended one-time spending would consist of a $1 million contribution to the county’s community infrastructure fund; $1 million to the West Marin infrastructure fund; $1 million for countywide traffic and safety quick-build projects; $700,000 for Marin Center community art and events activations; $500,000 to support immigrants; $500,000 for Civic Center signage and “wayfinding;” $250,000 for emergency operations implementation; and $1.8 million for departmental budget change proposals. https://www.marinij.com/2026/05/27/marin-county-budget-faces-possible-revenue-challenges
