Officer Michael P. Davey #20
Weymouth Police Department
End of Watch: August 24, 2009

Today, we remember Weymouth Police Officer Michael P. Davey #20, a five-year veteran of the Weymouth Police Department who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on August 24, 2009.

Officer Davey was directing traffic at a utility work site in Weymouth when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of a pickup truck ran a stop sign, struck another vehicle, and then struck Officer Davey, who was pinned between the vehicle and a utility truck. He suffered fatal injuries and was 34 years old.

Officer Davey was also an Iraq War veteran who proudly served with the United States Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Seventeen years later, we continue to honor Officer Davey’s service, sacrifice, and dedication to his community and his country.

Officer Davey, you are not forgotten.

Rest in peace. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

The Massachusetts Coalition of Police has endorsed Dave Solet for Middlesex County District Attorney. Primary Day is coming up next Tuesday September 1st. Make sure to get out and vote for Dave Solet. Here is an article in the Boston Herald that talks about our position and concerns with the current district attorney's stances and commitments.

Middlesex DA Marian Ryan is facing blowback from a Massachusetts police union after the Herald revealed that she signed a pledge promising to decline endorsements from law enforcement unions.

The Massachusetts Coalition of Police mourns the passing of our member Officer Robert Smith of the Boxford Police Department. Our thoughts are with the family of Rob and our brothers and sisters from Boxford during this difficult time.

The Blue Star Family Plate is now law. Governor Maura Healey signed the Blue Star Family motor vehicle registration plate legislation into law this afternoon with numerous Blue Star Families in attendance. The entire purpose of this legislation is to honor and remember those who have gone before us who have given the ultimate sacrifice. This signing happened today on the eighth anniversary of the murder of Sgt Michael Chesna of the Weymouth Police Department. A fitting day to present a way for us all to recognize and honor the families who have also given so much.
